From food to shampoo – we are exposed to chemicals every second, yet we know very little about them. To navigate this complicated world and make safer choices, EWG combined two of our most popular resources to form our Healthy Living App. Now, the product health and safety ratings for over 200,000 food and cosmetics products are simply one click away.

It’s that simple.

Get to Know: EWG’s Skin Deep
Have you ever counted how many cosmetics or personal care products you use in a day? Chances are it's about 10. Through those 10 products you expose yourself to more than 126 ingredients a day. Most people use these products without a second thought, believing that the government must certainly be policing the safety of the mixtures in these myriad containers. But it doesn’t.
That’s why EWG created Skin Deep -- the world’s largest personal care products safety reference tool. It offers easy-to-navigate safety ratings for nearly 80,000 products.

Get to Know: EWG’s Food Scores
How do we know what we’re eating, really? There are so many claims on food labels these days, and ingredients no one can pronounce.
We created EWG’s Food Scores because we all want to know what we’re putting in our bodies. Food Scores rates more than 80,000 foods, 5,000 ingredients and 1,500 brands.
Many other food apps rate food products on nutrition, but EWG went two steps further. Products are rated based on three elements: nutrition, ingredient concerns and degree of processing. We combine these three scores into a single overall product score. We weigh nutrition most heavily, ingredient concerns next and processing relatively lightly. We rate all foods on a 1 to 10 scale, with the best foods scoring a 1 and the worst foods scoring a 10.

Needs A TON of work and updating
First, let me say that I absolutely love the website and mission that EWG has. I always thought that since I used mostly natural and organic products that claimed to be earth friendly that I was protecting my family. When I looked at these items closer on the EWG website, I got sick to my stomach. I decided that I would download the Healthy Living app in order to help me navigate the world of products claiming to be good for you, but when I started using it to find products in the store, I discovered that the app is terrible. It is missing a ton of products, even popular brands. Sometimes, I think my scanner does not work because when I scan an object and it says that it is not in the database, I then sometimes manually enter the product in the search bar or research the company. Most of the time, when I research the company, such as Alba, the product that I scanned (that was supposedly not in the database) is there in the products listed by that company and the score given to it! It is so frustrating when this happens, especially when I have my little ones with me. I will continue to use EWGs website and support their group, but this app does not make life any easier for me since it is creating more work for me to determine legitimate products that are safe for my family.
App changed my lifestyle!!
I love that this app exists. It really changed my life!!! Being able to break down those ingredients into a rating scale is seriously important!! This app could use a better search engine for products though. Often a product will be in the system but if you don’t search for it the exact way it’s been logged, you may not find it. EWG please fix the search capabilities of this app. It’s so important that we continue to be educated on the products we choose for ourselves and our families. Really like the browse feature, EWG verified, recently viewed list, and scan (which is so convenient while at the store shopping).
I scanned 12 different products and none of it was on this app, so I don't have much use for this. And the products I scanned are super popular products. If they keep going and work hard to get things listed, then this might be a great app, but until then this app is kind of useless. I'd recommend Fooducate which is another app that has the products I scanned in it and much more. It's similar to this one in that it thrives to rate things for you by letting you know if something is legitimately healthy or not. If something doesn't exist in Fooducate, the app allows you to scan it into their system so they can add it later. Healthy living should do the same. I support their goal, but the app needs more work.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
