Glitchy otherwise great

I love this game and I am pretty satisfied with it only its pretty laggy and I can’t take screenshots.

Crash at first race

After 4 attempts, it is impossible to go to the second race on career mode. After first race the app crashes and I go back to the start.

Awesome. Forza Ferrari!

I've been a F1 fan and PC video gamer since early childhood and this is hands-down the best F1 simulation I've ever played and the first "new" big-title video game I've played on Mac in general; I'm impressed. The realism is excellent, the graphics look amazing and the handling and game-playing are superb. There's a new career mode that is very immersive and intricate and I've never seen such detailed elements in car management.

This isn't your bump into the wall and keep playing type of game (unless you're doing time laps maybe) F1 2016 is very true to the genre of simulation. The crashes in-race are something to behold, at first I was just crashing for the fun of seeing the car get slowly torn to pieces because I hadn't seen that kind of damage realism in F1 games. The level of detail for things like tire wear and temperature, all sorts of settings like suspension and down-force (and way more), keeping track of damage, fuel consumption and so on are just so engaging. You can set the time of day you want to race and let me tell you, playing this game at sunset is something else. Now and then if I only have a few minutes to play I'll just do time laps at sunset and with the out-of-car camera settings and just look at the car from all angles; it's actually relaxing to me. Likewise if you race in the rain, the realism of reflections and water on the track and the rain drops moving around the screen are just too cool, not to mention the realism of how hard it is to race in wet conditions.

Again, this is a very detailed simulation, not a drive-and-go bouncing off the walls type of game, for those who aren't familiar with it. Yes, you can play with all sorts of assists and automatic settings and you don't necessarily have to feel like you should be paid a F1 pilot's salary to learn how to play it, but I think the most fun comes from the level of detail as a simulator. Heck, you can even (somewhat) play with a keyboard and have a pretty good time, so the gamut of how immersive you want to be is there in theory, but this game shines in it's details, immersion and difficulty. I'm using an XBox One Elite controller (via USB) to play this game on Mac and it works very well for me with the proper driver installed. Once you get used to not hammering down on buttons and jamming those sticks left and right all the way, and instead use the full range of analog controls in a precise and controlled manner the playing experience really comes alive.

Last notes: carefully check the system requirements of course, as this game requires a pretty decent setup. I'm playing this on a 15" 2016 MacBook Pro with a 2.9Ghz processor, and Radeon Pro 460 with 4 GB of VRAM at 1680 x 1050 and it runs very well on High settings even in a full race with all cars and wet conditions. However, if I go to Ultra High settings with absolutely everything, like anti-aliasing and v-sync set to max, I'm definitely pushing it and it does slow down a little here and there. Honestly though, I can't even tell the difference between High and Ultra High myself so it's a non-issue to me. The only small issue I've come across as of yet is with the touch bar and Fn keys. You need to set the keyboard preferences so that the application uses the Fn keys strip by default, which is totally fine and easy to set up, but I've been having issues with the game registering the keys themselves. Sometimes I have to press them a couple times for the key to start working, then the same thing happens again if I change menu screens. I've contacted Feral Interactive about this and hopefully it will get resolved, perhaps it's even a problem on my end. Anyways, 5-star game for sure, check it out.
