Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.
Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.
Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.
Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)
Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.

Does Facebook Even Care?
I use this app like crazy. This is the main source of communication between my boyfriend and I when we aren't together. We've sent thousands and thousands of messages, and hundreds and hundreds of pictures. The last few months this app has been so worthless. Someone somewhere made a totally crap update that no update after has been able to fix. I report problems all the time that have never been fixed. I wish we would have just started on whatsapp from the get go. I can't scroll back past this week's pictures-even though they should go all the way back to 2014. HERE'S A SUGGESTION so take note: why don't you make a tab for pics that lets you click on the month or year? Here's another suggestion: how about making an update that actually fixes bugs, like the one that makes all of my pictures flash like strobe lights when I go to look at them. And finally, here's one last suggestion : When someone reports a problem multiple times over many months, maybe you should actually care and try to fix it.
Love messenger, hate this new update
I use messenger to communicate with most of my friends. I love the stickers, noises, and the whole feel of it. But I'm writing this review because the location of the send picture button was moved to a different place. Muscle memory already was used to it next to the camera, which to me also makes perfect sense. Please move it back. Also, while I am here: preview on gifs should be bigger. Or at least provide the option to preview a chosen gif bigger. Sometimes it's hard to read the text on a gif in the little sideshow. Another note: please make sending videos recorded through the app 30 seconds instead of 15. Facebook, you own instagram. Don't you think it'd be wise to have content that flows for that? One more problem I can think of is with a couple updates ago, some of the circle previews of the person you are talking to (the dots) appear grey instead of the profile picture. And sometimes dots from other conversations appear in different ones. You have your work cut out for you.
Great until this last update...
This app has been great - up until this last update. The app is stuck in limbo between downloading and not even being on phone. When I got stuck in the download, I deleted it off my phone. Now the app is gone from my phone, but I can't redownload it from the App Store because IT thinks that it's still on my phone! Instead of the "get" or "install" options, all I have is the square in a circle icon as if it's trying to download. Not sure what kind of fix would work for this problem, but from looking at other reviews, I'm clearly not the only one... Running iOS9.1 on a iPhone 5c from early 2014.
