Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.
Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.
Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.
Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)
Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.

Decent App with Some Issues
Alright. I use this app everyday in order to communicate with my long-distance sweetheart. For the most part, the app functions. I can easily text back in forth, call my friends, or video chat with them. The sticker store is my favorite part of the app. I absolutely love the Pusheen and Sugar Cub stickers.
Despite the functionality of the app, there are a few issues with it. For one, the minimal video recording time is 15 seconds and maximum sending time is 90 seconds. I wish the app could record at least 90 seconds and send 180 seconds of film. Instead of using the app directly, I use another app to send videos to my long-distance boyfriend. In addition, I have an issue with the app draining battery life. FB Messenger majorly drains battery life when I'm not texting, when I'm voice calling, and—especially— when I'm in a video call. If there any resolutions, I would very much appreciate it.
Overall, it is a decent app with some issues. 3 out of 5 stars.
Unnessecarry and uncaring about feedback
I don't know which will be more redundant, writing this review expecting Facebook to listen, or the messenger app itself...
What was originally wrong with having everything in one cohesive app? What was wrong with the chat bubbles that Facebook used to have that would conveniently notify you when you got a message and would be out of your way when you wanted them to be? Do you know how many man hours people have wasted double clicking their home button just so they can switch back to the Facebook app after they BRIEFLY had to open messenger just to read one message? Do you know how many of those man hours you could have capitalized on? They could have been used for viewing advertisements or helping Facebook profit in some way, or... Oh I don't know... NOT WASTING TIME?
But if you're going to keep it screwed up: at least fix this one thing: messages not delivering consistently, sometimes for hours. Messages are inconsistent with how much time they take to deliver. This never used to happen and there's no excuse for not being able to deliver a few bytes instantly when servers can process trillions each second, ESPECIALLY when it says the message has been sent. And this doesn't just happen to me. It happens to others.
I'm starting to think that the only reason this app is ever updated is to wipe the reviews of the previous version off the reviews section in App Store. Please prove me wrong.
Quit complaining or write your own app
I use this app every day. That's a full five star being that I obviously use this app every day. I use it because it was built and it obviously convenient. Those of you here complaining, I'm sure you use the app every day, it's kind a like a fake friend. I like the app, i'm sure they can make changes. Everyone has ideas but nobody knows how to make them happen. If you can't write a new app and quit complaining about theirs, just don't use the app. Simple, little sarcastic, and my sarcasm is my weird humor. Love the app, I'm always open for change. Don't come on here and complain, if your not a tech guy building apps. Followed by a better app and a recommendation not just a full complaint for attention. Shhhhh, enjoy the free app. 😇
