Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.
Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.
Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.
Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)
Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.

Fixed issues to make the app more reliable.
Let me turn off notifications while unlocked!
So I doubt anyone will read this or care and I'm locked into using this stupid app just because my friends use it, but I'm leaving this review because I can't believe I have to deal with this in 2015. Every time I set the app not to notify me when the phone is unlocked (i.e. I'm doing something, reading a book, playing a game, typing up emails, you know, busy and not wanting a banner at the top of the screen), this app decides that I've turned off notifications completely and starts giving me this "please turn on notifications" message every time I open it. It's annoying to have to click through every time I open the app and I should be able to decide when and how I want notifications without the app becoming basically unusable in order to blackmail me into getting notifications how the app wants. I'm not going to forget about you, Facebook Messenger! I have badges and lock screen notifications on! No other app has given me a hard time just for turning off notifications while unlocked, it's completely absurd. When are companies going to realize that annoying your users into using your product is not going to create good will or a loyal customer base?
Annoyed with this app already
I have an iPhone 5 and it says that I am on messenger but I don't have that little blue lightning bolt next to my picture so I don't know if I'm getting all of my messages or not. Even after the latest update and I logged out of my messenger account and re-logged in and I also uninstalled and reinstalled the app and still the same issue continues. It is very very frustrating and also I thought that when you changed your profile picture on your Facebook that your profile picture for messenger is supposed to automatically update also and it doesn't so these are some issues that I think messenger needs to look at and update because it is so very annoying and I am very dissatisfied with this app if it continues to do this
I've even tried shutting my phone off leaving it off for a while and then turning it back on and the same problem continues...ugh👎🏼
Please fix!!! I don't think I'm even getting all of my messages either. I even uninstalled the app and reinstalled it but still the same issue continues
HEEEELLO, I.T. Department!
Just did latest "update" to "fix" some problem I ~wasn't~ having (oh, btw), and now I AM having a problem. I'm using an iPhone 6 + with not ~quite~ the latest IOS (haven't installed the 8.4 update, because I'm waiting to see what the general consensus is - what I've got going works fine for me, and sometimes, updates cause more issues than they "fix"). Case in point - the latest Messenger "fix." Which I did last night, and now…yuck. I am totally unable to share from Facebook to Messenger via the "share" feature in the Facebook app. I get an "FBAPIErrorDomain Error 1500" when I try. And I also has a friend with an iPad that has the same complaint - she can't share from Facebook to Messenger.
We'd both sure love it if y'all would fix this issue. Thanks.
