Instantly reach the people in your life—for free. Messenger is just like texting, but you don't have to pay for every message (it works with your data plan).
Not just for Facebook friends: Message people in your phone book and just enter a phone number to add a new contact.
Group chats: Create groups for the people you message most. Name them, set group photos and keep them all in one place.
Photos and videos: Shoot videos and snap selfies or other photos right from the app and send them with one tap.
Free calls: Talk as long as you want, even with people in other countries. (Calls are free over Wi-Fi. Otherwise, standard data charges apply.)
Even more ways to message:
Bring your conversations to life with stickers.
Preview your camera roll photos and videos without leaving the conversation--then choose the perfect ones to send.
Record voice messages when you have more to say.
Know when people have seen your messages.
Forward messages or photos to people who weren't in the conversation.
Search for people and groups to quickly get back to them.
Turn on location to let people know when you're nearby.
See who's available on Messenger and who's active on Facebook.
Turn off notifications when you're working, sleeping or just need a break.
Stay logged in so you never miss a message.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Messenger uses location data to make features work, help people connect and more.

manipulated into downloading an app i didnt need
Facebook Messenger is so unnecessary that Facebook uses coercion tactics to get its users to download the app. I only got it to avoid the sheer inconvenience of inexplicably NOT BEING ALLOWED TO CHECK MY MESSAGES FROM MY PHONE ANYMORE. Why?? Please, please let me check messages from my phone. Messenger app doesn't always load my messages, so I've missed everything from hanging out with friends to job opportunities. Why is it Facebook's decision to literally prevent people from checking their messages the old fashioned way? When you finally download this useless garbage, it insists that you turn on notifications, lighting up with a red number 1 as if you have an unread message. I'll save you the time checking: unless you turn on Messenger notifications, you will have that red number as long as you have the app. Soon, the sight of it will drive you insane, and you'll remove the app out of spite, smash your phone on the curb, get hundreds of tattoos, try hard drugs, try shepherding in a remote location, try rehab, then finally build yourself a one-person spacecraft capable of sustaining inter-orbital life for the next 80 years and leave this planet for good. Thanks for nothing facebook messenger.
Frustrated...yay another update!!! Blah
Why can't y'all just leave things alone? I don't know what y'all think y'all are updating but it does no good. And y'all sure don't listen to complaints otherwise y'all would fix this stuff. And there's no way to get in touch with anyone with questions or problems, all you get is an automated response that says thanks your feedback helps. Well, obviously not if you aren't listening.
First off, there needs to be a way to reset messenger back to default settings.
Second, why do 2 separate accounts have 2 complete different looks on the same device and operating system? I created a new page for personal reasons but have the old page for memories and pictures. The messenger on that page is completely different than the page I actively use. Why? Y'all really need to figure out stuff out and start listening to people that use your app because this is ridiculous.
Yay! Y'all did another update! What did it fix? Oh yeah...absolutely nothing!!!! Yesterday when my app updated, had a new look and everything was updated. Now today I open the app back up and it looks the same as it did before the update. Why? Oh, I'd ask y'all but that's right...there's no one to get in contact with! I've tried! Y'all need better customer service and really need to read reviews and listen to what people say. But then, that would be too easy wouldn't it?
Messenger, now with 75% less messaging.
A few UI updates ago, Messenger was a fine app. You could message all of your Facebook friends and groups with ease. Then they decided to add some random clutter, adding useless buttons all over the messaging screen and then later by changing the homescreen by reducing the contact list to 3 friends you actually want to message and then 10 friends you don't care about.
After that point, I refused to update the app. And now they've forced this update that turns messenger into a middle school student's attempt of a Snapchat app, and they were so proud of that for some reason that they reserved a massive section for it at the top of your list... As well as the bottom of the screen, the top of your keyboard, the bottom of the chat screen and they've made it so when you scroll up it opens your camera to send a not-Snapchat to all your friends.
Very unprofessional, Facebook. Shame on you.
