Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Facebook doesn’t run GPS in the background unless you give us permission by turning on optional features that require this.
What's New in Version 36.1
Constant crashing has been mentioned but I will as well. The "trending" stuff needs to stop -- I don't care what people are posting on Twitter or how many times Cecil the Lion is mentioned. If people WANT to know what is "trending" then give them an option to see that or give an option not to see it. Likewise, with Messenger, I am not using it. I don't want or need another texting program that disturbs me. So if Facebook insists on a separate program, then they need to block people from sending Messenger messages to me -- someone trying to send me a message wouldn't be able to select my name.
I called this review "forced society" because FB seems to think that one size and one style fits all. I am not a Millennial. I am a 50 Something working parent who uses the app to keep up with friends who I don't have time to see or to look for a recipe or a knitting pattern. I don't want constant "trending" videos about Bruce Jenner or a lion. I don't want to know every time someone likes a picture. I absolutely do not want to quickly sign on through my phone and see 17 messenger messages that I won't read. Let each of us set how we want Facebook to work best for us.
No more "top stories"
I do not use this app anymore and haven't since fb made the "top stories" the default mode. I don't want to see posts from days ago, I want to see most recent and in order of post. I sincerely doubt anyone else like this either but you push out meaningless updates week after week. The only reason I can see you are forcing this on us is to cram more ads in our news feed. If you tried this on the web version, I am certain you would be history in a week. At least give us a real option of permanent choice on how we view our feed. Then we would all be happy. I had a choice to buy an IPhone but you offer no choice for your product. The splitting off of the messenger app was also a bad idea as I can see by the ratings.
The new update is not all that great. I have drop out issues. When the app is opened and I open another app to multitask, then come back to it... It drops out. Then I'm only able to open the app by going to the App Store and tapping "open". After a while, it doesn't even allow me to do that anymore... So then I have to delete the app, and download it again. Even after that, it'll sometimes not allow me to reopen it. I power off the phone... Then power it on, and it'll work for a while. Later it'll give me the same problem all over again. smh, why update the app over and over when it worked right before. If it's not broken, don't fix it.
