Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Facebook doesn't run GPS in the background unless you give us permission by turning on optional features that require this.
What's New in Version 58.0
Thanks for using Facebook! To make our app better for you, we bring updates to the App Store regularly.
Every update of our Facebook app includes improvements for speed and reliability. As new features become available, we’ll highlight those for you in the app.
I have decided to delete the Facebook app and use it from my safari for many reasons. First there is way too much you can't access without downloading a whole separate app, like messages. Another is the glitches it causes my phone. On two accounts in the past 3 months my phone has froze, only allowing me to scroll up and down the Facebook app. I could not get out of the app even if I clicked on a notification from another app such as messages. My home button would not work and when I clicked the lock button it locked no problem but wouldn't unlock without solid clicking for about two minutes. The problem is, with both of these instances the app I was in while it happened was not Facebook either time. I didn't even have the app open but it was my only option when my phone unfroze. I had to wait for my phone to die to get it to come back on the first time and it took about 15 minutes of not touching it for it to come back to normal the second time. I have addresses the issue with my local phone company and they confirmed it was not a problem with my phone or software. It was the app. And lastly no matter how many times I mess with it I never get push notifications, this problem has occurred amongst other people I know too. This is not a quality app at all.
Getting better, still needs lots of improvement
A few versions ago, I wrote reviews saying how much I despised the Facebook app, and that I only will use the website. I've found that I'm missing a lot of features by doing that, so I gave it another chance. It's still a memory hog, and I keep having to delete and reinstall it so it doesn't grow to over 1 GB in size within a month (happens on both my iPhone and iPad). I also don't like that I have to have both the Facebook and Messenger apps to communicate with all of my friends. Why did messenger move to its own app? I'm still not sure. Overall, it's more stable than it was, but it still isn't an app that I enjoy using. Fix the storage usage, or give me a "Clear Facebook App Data" button and I'll be much happier.
Facebook app is so crappy now. I hate the dumb marketplace and the fact that I can't turn off notifications for it. I don't use it and I don't care about it. I don't was to open fb and have it constantly have a little notification on it.
It's stupid that I have to open an entirely different app just to see my messages and I think it's ridiculous that Facebook sorts my messages for me. If I don't want to be contacted by someone I can block them. I would like to know when someone who isn't my friend messages me and not have you put it in another folder or in my message requests..that's just dumb.
I liked the friend requests section separate from my notification section..I like seeing all my notifications without having the friend requests and friend suggestions on the screen too.
