What's New in Version 29.0
Thanks for using Facebook! To make our app better for you, we bring updates to the App Store every 2 weeks. You can update the app automatically (without checking back here) by going to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Automatic Downloads and turning on Updates.
Every update of our Facebook app includes improvements for speed and reliability. As other new features become available, we’ll highlight those for you in the app.
The fact that to use Messenger I need a different app is beyond absurd. Especially since I don't want that app and now every time someone send me a message I have an annoying notification on my screen I can't get to go away until I actually have access to a computer. I should not have to download a second app! The random notifications that a get alerts to make no sense. The friends I talk to I rarely get any alerts but sure enough my phone will go off for someone birthday that I've never even talked too before. If their birthday is important enough to me I won't need my phone going off for it. Same goes for when random friends post a picture. I don't want the notification unless it directly involves me. Also I'll be scrolling through and just when I see something I want to read the app jumps to the top of the page and in some cases I never get to see the article I wanted to read. I feel that most of the drastic updates make the iPhone app less user friendly. I also don't like when I share multiple things and go to look for it the next day I have to check a long activity log instead of it being on my profile where I had put it. I put it on my profile so it'd be on my profile, not an activity log.
I use voice over on my iPhone 5s, because I am totally blind. Up until a few weeks ago the Facebook app was working great. Apparently one of the latest updates that was released changed how the notification section of the app is viewed. For example, if I have three new notifications, I double tap on the notification tab, and then it says two finger double tap to interact. I do that and it does not give me all my notifications. Sometimes it sits there and does nothing. In order to access my notifications, I either have to get someone who is cited to turn voiceover off and read them to me, or if I post something in a specific group, or on my timeline, I have to go directly to that particular section of the app to see if someone posted something. When voiceover is not enabled, everything seems to work fine. Yes, I realize I can go to the mobile site using Safari, but that is an absolute pain to have to do that. Please address this issue as soon as possible, and any other blind user who is reading this, please take the time to write a review also.
Facebook for mobile
I am so pleased that I am able, once again, to be in touch with so many with whom I'd lost touch. I love seeing postings which bring a smile to my face or a genuine LOL. I also need to see some things that bring tears-it's all part of life. I wish that I could receive postings in a more timely fashion. For example, what good does it do me to see a posting for a tornado warning 12 hours after its issued? None whatsoever. And, why repost a post when someone's commented on it when there's also a notification on that post? I am VERY happy with the swift response & subsequent removal of a local posting which contained what I believed to be pornographic material. FB agreed that it violated its community standards, removed the post & notified the "poster." To summarize, while it has some things that aggravate me, it has brought old friends back into my life, given me opportunity to make new friends world wide & put me back in touch with the world (I do not yet own a personal computer). Thanks, FB & keep up the good work!!
