Scripted mystery fallen far from intriguing
Disappointing trial version. The graphics and scenes were of average detail and beauty. The score was mellow and not annoying. The theme was interesting, but fell well short of intriguing enough to play through, much less pay for, the full version. HOS were average to simple and puzzles were less than challenging. The lure in the beginning is adventure; danger and mystery around every corner. However, every move is completely scripted. Opening instructions invite us to touch anything of interest because, after all, it is an adventure-- yet through the entire trial I discovered only one interactive item that was not a sparkling object and part of the very restricted steps in the script; the crow atop the front gate flew away when I touched it. An unfortunate bore is the best description I can provide and that IS a shame because the potential is there for something much better. In Fallen Shadows I found a fallen interest in pursuing the scripted-mystery any further. If you're just looking to pass time with mind-numbing simplicity and slow, excruciating fades between each scene then perhaps you could enjoy it.
Could have been so much better.
It looks like they are trying to make this into a serial. This really could have been so much better. It was incredibly short. The puzzles were much easier than they should have been. However, I had to skip two different puzzles due to bad puzzle mechanics. They also used the hidden object thing that I hate where they just take the object's opacity so far down that is impossible to see. I can't decide if it's laziness or just a lack of common sense. I often wonder when playing HOGs that do this if the designers have actually played a HOG.
Oh yeah, I also couldn't click to just go to the next piece of dialogue after reading it and had to just sit through it. I play these games with the sound off usually, so it always annoys me if I can't skip to the next screen after I'm finished reading.
Very poorly done
Long, boring intro with no way to skip it. First scene I see things I know I'll need. Problem, the game won't allow it yet. You must click on the gate first. Why? I can see what I need already, but...... So, I follow the way the developers want it. Scene 2, same problem. There IS a HO scene here, but you can't access it until you follow the steps the developer wants you to take. Step three go back to the first scene. My message to the developers: no two people think exactly the same. Why do I have to follow your rigid steps? I hate this game. Wouldn't pay a dollar for it! No map. Hints are too helpful. Annoying!
