farmAR brings information about soil and crops directly to the smartphone. The power of farmAR comes from its satellite image processing servers. The satellite data of the registered farms are automatically processed and important results are sent to the app users. Farmers can thus be aware of all the relevant information in the field that is normally invisible to the human eye. This leads to quick and efficient decision-making to save crops and to get more yield. On site, farmers can directly decide about the next work steps and save time and money by reducing unnecessary chemical usage. farmAR creates positive impact on budget of farmers. As a further positive side effect, plants become healthier and the soil becomes richer.
After signing in, the user needs to create a farm by selecting a polygon region on the map. farmAR automatically processes satellite data of the selected area. The water index (NDWI) shows which areas of the soil are wet and which areas are dry. This information helps to save crops and save water costs if it is not necessary to water. The vegetation index (NDVI) shows which areas are growing densely green and which areas are not. The less green areas in the map are the locations which need nutrition or fertilizers. Instead of spraying these chemicals to all farm (which is extremely expensive solution), farmers can treat the areas which need treatment. Reducing amount of chemicals with this precision farming opportunity, reduces the farming costs effectively.
farmAR shows 2D NDWI and NDVI maps, but also creates location based augmented reality (AR) tags at locations which show sudden change of water or vegetation index value. Farmer can walk to those sudden change locations to make visual inspection. Augmented reality display of farmAR guides the farmer towards these sudden change locations. Farmers benefit from satellite images very easily, without needing to be an expert.
Furthermore, farmers can make photos and leave those photos as AR notes in the land. Later, when they visit the farm again, they can look at their past AR photos and visually compare the AR past photos with the current situation.
AR photo notes can also be used for exchanging information between workers of the same farm.
