excellent for film photographers
This really is a great tool for those who would rather use their phone as opposed to a notebook to record each shot's settings when shooting film. I wish we had a way of setting certain f-stops instead of having to hit custom and type it out each time, i.e. f/0.95. The ability to set different frame numbers would also be great as sometimes I start with frame 0 instead of 1. Also the ability to export into csv rather than xml would make this the perfect application as there is no other app that does what Film Roll currently does, keeping it simple not adding any useless bloatware like the other paid apps. Very useful when you find yourself without your notebook!
Great overall application
I’ve really enjoyed, and have benefited from using this application. The ability to store different cameras, lenses, and accessories in the application’s permanent database, and the little helpful details, such as being able to indicate at what ISO you metered your film, or the quick fill feature that initializes the new frame with the settings used for the one prior all make this application efficient and intuitive to use.
Suggestions: 1. Add a field for focal length; 2. make the csv file outputs more organized with easier-to-read columns for the different values and frame numbers.
The best companion app for film photographers
It’s by far the easiest way I’ve found of writing down camera settings when shooting film; I love that it uses the phone’s GPS to save the location where I took each photo, which is normally what I have the hardest time remembering. I do wish it had better export options, like exporting each roll individually, or saving to Dropbox automatically, to make it easier to use the data, but that’s the only nitpick I have. I definitely recommend this app, regardless.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
