Without any reservation whatsoever, I would like to say that this is the best game I have ever played! It took a wonderfully longtime to finish! It was just difficult enough to challenge you, without being so difficult you want to give up. The hidden objects scenes were beautifully crisp and sharp. They were not so easy that you could do them without thinking, yet the objects weren't so hard to find that you constantly had to use the hint button. And best of all, they were NOT, a big junkpile! I didn't feel as if I was wandering around, not able to figure out what to do. I only resorted to using the strategy guide a couple of times, and then it was only because I had stayed up so late...playing the addicting game!...that I was too groggy to think straight!
I am eagerly awaiting Final Cut 2!!! Btw, the "making of" video was a riot!!!
Just a note, if I were forced to find something I would want changed...I would have to say the puzzles need better instructions on how to go about solving them.
Slick Hidden-Object with Citizen-Kane vibe
There are a lot of HO's out there and most have at least something to recommend them. But many fade into each other in terms of design and creativity. Final Cut was just unique enough and the graphics superb enough to provide a satisfying and intriguing experience. The games are challenging and original and the film tycoon theme, replete with outrageous, ornate Twenties era movie sets and elaborate Art-Deco contraptions make this a complex and lengthy enterprise. In my experience, games that blend atmosphere with great graphics, a compelling - albeit cliché - storyline, and a vast multi room mansion of an eccentric maniac add up to a very entertaining HO. Never quite understood what exactly the camera device does other than entrance its victims in a Clockwork-Orange-like stupor. Didn't have the added layer of hazy dread that The Room or Dorian Grey do so that docked them a star - but it is a great release from Big Fish. The vaguely autistic gardener is a strange character indeed.
Final Cut - Not the best
Based on the reviews I expected more. Just doesn't compare to some of the other Big Fish games I've played. Recently completed Fates Carnival and perhaps that skewed my opinion, because that game was well worth the $7. By comparison, this simply was not. I see from other reviews that there is an issue with the bonus game, and I encountered the same problem. If you're not able to play it in one sitting, don't bother starting. It won't save your progress and Big Fish has done nothing to fix this problem since it was mentioned a year ago in reviews. I don't have the time to sit and play all at one go, so I am pretty disappointed in that aspect. As to the main game, the art is all right, the graphics could be better, and honestly I don't really enjoy the route the story took. I've never had that problem with a Big Fish game. I won't be playing the sequel.
