For the price, lacks value
With the recent update, new bugs came too.
I work with an apple blu tooth keyboard.
When I highlight something to delete, then delete, the line BELOW gets pulled up and reformatted. every time, no matter how careful I am.
If I delete things by holding down the delete key the app crashes.
More keyboard shortcuts are needed (bold, italics, underline).
Dual dialogue is a must.
For the price, this app seems content to add bells and whistles without making the basics more functional. I don't need bells and whistles. I need reliable functionality.
Some features in this update are NOT compatible with Final Draft 8.
Message I received when opening app.
“Some features in this update are NOT compatible with Final Draft 8. Saving this FDX file in Final Draft 8 may cause you to lose one or more of the following: General Notes. ScriptNote color, name and type. Page size settings. (A4 or US Letter)
This is one of my most frequently used apps. It's endlessly useful and prevents you from needing from having to be on a computer to make progress on an idea. With my blu-tooth keyboard I am typing constantly throughout the week.
I've noticed one or two reviews giving complaints about the most recent message stating that some features available in the iPad app are not compatible with Final Draft 8, and this isn't anything worth complaining about. It's simply letting you know that the app has included features available in Final Draft 9 and, as Final Draft 8 doesn't have these features, if you use any of them they wont carry over if you open your script in Final Draft 8. Hardly something to give a low rating for. I'd be more upset if I updated my desktop application and then found out that they didn't upgrade the iPad app to support the new features available on the desktop version.
All in all a great app. It occasionally crashes, like nearly all text editing apps, including Apple's own Pages, but the auto-save feature has prevented me from ever losing more than a sentence or two. The price may seem high to some, but as it is essentially the same as the desktop application, lacking only a bit of extra formatting control and a few templates that I'm sure will be released in the future, I assure you that it is worth it. My only issue is that I wish if you do own the desktop version you could get the iPad app at some kind of discount, but I figure this is a limitation of the Apple store and not the decision of Final Draft.
