iOS 8 Compatibility

We have confirmed a bug that prevents in-game sound from functioning properly on devices running iOS 8.

To work around this issue, players are asked to simply access the Notification Center while playing by swiping down from the top of the screen. After doing so, game sound will function properly.

We apologize for any inconvenience, and hope you continue to enjoy playing our game.

FINAL FANTASY II is highly anticipated follow-up to the original FINAL FANTASY, released in Japan in 1988.

The game features the bitter and beautiful tale of four war-orphaned heroes who become embroiled in a conflict between the hostile Empire of Palamecia and the rebel resistance. By eschewing conventional leveling for a proficiency system that allows players to tailor their characters' growth and incorporating a key term memory system that makes dialogue integral to gameplay, this game sparked the spirit of innovation for which the series has become known.

This release also contains the bonus dungeons added to later editions of the game--the Soul of Rebirth and the Arcane Labyrinth.

My journey continues

I just started playing this game a couple of weeks ago and I just beat the game tonight. I am on a journey to purchase and beat all of the FF titles in order on the App Store. At first I didn't think it was going to be as good as the first, but as the time flew by I was quickly starting to realize that not only is FF II better, it's one of the best period. It took me about 30 massive hours of action packed nostalgic game play to get through the story. Not to mention all the secrets of the arcane labarynth and the additional soul of rebirth story you unlock when you beat the game. So there is still many more amazing hours of pure joy to be had. The gameplay is completely flawless. Again, I experienced none of the problems the other reviewers complained about whatsoever. The only technical problem with the game is the fact that every time you load it, it doesn't have any sound. All you have to do to fix it is pull down the Notification Center and flick it back problem. Also the fact that I didn't figure out how to target multiple enemies or view the world map until the game was almost over so yea that made me mad haha. But that isn't a problem with the game that's just my fault I guess. Do yourself a favor and get every single FF game from the App Store. The nostalgic highs I've been on the past month have been mind blowing!!!! Next stop...FF III lmllml

Good game, unfortunate flaws

This port shows a lack of caring and effort on SE's part. It's the full PSP version with the new dungeon, but no widescreen support for the iPhone 5.
There is a crash that occurs quite frequently when accessing a character's magic menu, and when the game crashes your quick-save location will not be saved so you have to start from your last save point or from where you were the last time you turned the game on. This crash should be relatively easy to find and fix, but instead the latest patch just adds more languages so SE can sell their broken software in more territories.
There's a minor audio glitch sometimes where town/map/battle music skips back a beat.
With the limited effort put into this port, $5 would have been a fair price.

Slow and Inconsistent

This game has a good story for its time and can be read today pretty well. I am updating this review to state it is a waste of time even when you know about dead zones to avoid and using scott's ring as the world map (by holding the status popup screen that appears when outside and not moving).

The arcane dungeon is a nice add-on since you can explore and do side quests rather than blindly grind; you get new words to access new floors designed like these words (such as an airship level if you use the word airship); it is very unique and I recommend quitting after you beat the 1st two with Josef in your party.

The good parts of this game end with the story, and arcane dungeon; the temporary 4th character adds some variety until you see how lazy the random encounters are.

This is because you fight the same enemies or palette swaps in multiple dungeons, making difficulty inconsistent or repetitive based on if the arcane dungeon made you too strong.

To make this doubly painful, you can't speed up these easy battles against the same enemies unlike with Final Fantasy Dimensions' auto-battle. This is a horrible catch-22 and the only reason I give it 2 stars is due to the arcane dungeon which was enjoyable.
