Bug fixes and stability improvements
Used to work, now it doesn't
I've used this app since it came out and for years I had no trouble at all. The sometime in 2014 it just stopped finding my mom. It always said "Location not available" even when she was right next to me. I tried everything I could think of: signing out and back in, deleting and reinstalling, restarting the phone, deleting her and reconnecting, and did all of this on both phones. Nothing worked. I even upgraded to the iPhone 6, still nothing. Then last month, (May 2015) my other contacts started showing up as not available. So the app is now completely useless due to a problem that has persisted for close to a year. Internet searches have turned up no solutions, only other people with the same problem. Apple, as ever, is completely silent on the topic and apparently is in no particular hurry to handle it. This is a trend I feel is becoming more and more prominent with Apple. They race to update their OS every 6 months and pump out a "new" iPhone every 12-18 months but have no real interest in fixing stuff the break along the way. I've been a lifelong Apple fan but as time goes on I find myself ever more curious about how customer-oriented the competition is.
Randomly works, and rarely anymore
I have kids with iOS devices and when they're traveling, we use FF to make sure they've arrived safely, etc. we also use it when we're traveling. The app used to work great. 2-3 months ago, it started randomly dropping family members, and we would have to send follow requests. Then it would work, and once again quit. More recently, in the past 3-4 weeks, it's exceedingly common for the app to locate one family member, and say "location not available" for any number of the others. Sometimes (rarely), it will show them a short while later. Sometimes it shows all, but I can't remember the last time it showed the all. We have turned off location sharing and then turned it back on. I have verified Find My iPhone works, even when FF doesn't. I have verified cellular data for FF is on and the devices are connected to the network, and/or wifi, and that each device's FF app is "following" each other. I just had one device disappear, two I can't locate, and one I can. Then ten minutes later, one appeared again. It was in the same room the entire time.
The bottom line is this once reliable and useful app has become an almost entirely unreliable pain in the neck.
I have used find my friends for about a year now, and I am nothing less then incredibly happy with it. That is why when I purchased the Iwatch, I was disappointed to see that there was no version of find my friends available for the expensive device. As a customer, and one who uses find my friends regularly, I would suggest that apple bring find my friends to the Iwatch. This would make things incredibly convenient and will also increase satisfaction to Iwatch users. Imagine being able to find someone at the touch of a button on your wrist. No longer having to take out your phone every 3 minutes to check up on someone's location; rather, you just lift up your hand- and there they are. The Iwatch was created for this reason, to get notifications on your wrist, respond to messages quicklier, etc. etc. Don't let this application slide, apple. After all it is placed under "essentials". If that is true, I hope to see it on my wrist soon to get the most out of my Iwatch.
