========= How does this work ? =========
FireChat creates a mesh network using Bluetooth and peer-to-peer WiFi. FireChat transmits messages and pictures offline between devices that are located within 200 feet of one another.
Thanks to FireChat’s innovative multi-hop and store-and-forward capabilities, FireChat users form a network that increases in size with the number of devices. It allows messages to hop from one device to the next in order to reach the recipient(s). This is why the more people use FireChat, the better and the larger the network becomes (unlike with cellular networks).
On the mesh network, messages are transmitted seamlessly from one device to the next in order to reach the recipient(s). When an Internet connection or cellular network is available, FireChat uses them to reach remote recipients.
Public messages are visible by anyone. Private messages are encrypted and can only be seen and read by the sender and the recipient(s).

Great nearby mesh Messenger & global chat
It still works great for me. Low review and hate are from the "group think" bunch, Some of these reviews are just plain lies. all the talk stalkers are scare tactics. Why? Who knows… but anyone going online through apps or websites knows that they will probably run into a few jerks along the way. Yes the app needs to be updated and innovate some more. 1 star reviews are just haters.
I can use the private message only or I can use the global chatroom where there is always new and interesting chat topics going around. I love the idea of out at sea on a cruise or when traveling with a group.
The nearby chatroom feature needs some work, I see chats from people who are not even remotely nearby. Also the "anonymous" feature is still tied to your account, so public posts are forever under your signed in handle. There needs to be an option to have your handle decoupled from posts.
Sometimes there are too many duplicate chatrooms.
Overall nice little chat app with great potentials for off the grid communications.
Perfect for Festivals
This app proved vital in connecting to my other fiends "offline" when the network providers were overloaded by wireless network activity at #ACL2016

Great concept, poor execution. The real reason people are getting this is probably because of the hurricane. And what do you know it's a certain distance span. So if you and you're friend aren't in that span, then no communication.
