FlashAlert Messenger allows you to view local news, and receive push notifications of emergency alerts (and in some cases, sports scores) from FlashAlert Newswire. You may use it as a stand-alone news viewer or link it to your FlashAlert Messenger account for emergency alert push notifications from the schools, police agencies or organizations you have subscribed to. If you have trouble attaching the app to your account, it may be because push notification is turned off on your phone. For more details, go to www.flashalertnewswire.net/attachbutton.html
What's New in Version 1.0.8
Minor tweaks to the Account Settings screen:
Bugfix for 'Manage Subscriptions' button
Change to 'Attach My Account'.
We have been using FA for several years with reasonable success. Unfortunately, after switching to a new IPhone, I no longer get push notifications. The new one is a 5s. I've tried deleting and reregistering, and the site shows my phone. I've emailed with their tech support, and after checking all the settings, the answer given to me was that another app or program must be interfering. Okay...no fix? Apparently not. Not even a suggestion as to what might be interfering, since all the apps I have were on my old phone, except for the ones Apple added to the 5s and most recent updates. Does FA just not work with Apple anymore? Frustrating!! Especially the non response in the end.
Disappointing - Very poorly executed
I have successfully created an account, and successfully linked it to this app. I then managed to subscribe to one local fire department. Now, after successfully logging in, I want to add additional subscriptions. I'm asked to select a region; when I do this a scroll wheel appears. The app does not let me select ANY of the options on the scroll wheel; they ALL seem to be inactive. When I try to simply back up to the previous screen, back up, the app brings me back to the login window, and I have to log in all over again.
For an app that is supposed to be providing potential life and death information, this is an unacceptable travesty.
Needs ability to disable emails
This app works as advertised for me.
Unfortunately in addition to app alerts the service also sends an email to you for every incident, so if you have the app you'll see every incident twice--once as an app notification and once in email.
I contacted the developer about this, and he provided a workaround by resetting my email address as non-validated so that emails to me would be suppressed and my only notifications would be via app notifications.
