Fear Mongers = Naïve
It is indeed the case that a number of flashlight apps can and do request access to permissions and data on users' cell phones that seemingly has nothing to do with the ordinary functioning of the app, and that such permissions could theoretically enable criminals to obtain sensitive personal information from cell phone users. However:
Having a flashlight app on your cell phone does not necessarily mean someone is stealing your personal data. (Realistically, any kind of app could be exploited for this purpose.)
Just because an app requests permissions it may not need does not mean the app is being used for nefarious purposes. (Many, many apps request more permissions than they seemingly need.)
Nothing about a flashlight app makes it inherently more susceptible to criminal exploitation. (Flashlight apps just happen to be one of the most common cell phone apps.)
It's spyware...don't download
This app is actually spyware with Built in Trojans. It will do what it says in terms of functionality but it's really designed to steal information. If you don't believe me 1) check their permissions you agree too when you download the app. 2) do some research online and you will find tons of information about this and other flashlight apps in reference to them being spyware apps. This app can access your gps, camera, websites visited including saving and sending your passwords to another company/sites for whatever they want, and various other functions. This is all well documented and you agree to allow them to take this information when you download the app. The only way to get it off your phone is a factory reset. Just deleting the app will not get the program off your phone (it will show it gone but they have Trojans built in so it can still steal and send your data to various sites).
I have had 3 different flashlight apps. They were all somewhat deceiving and to get the full extent of use you had to make in app purchases. Some more easier to work than others, but when I stumbled across this one, I deleted all the others. This one gives sufficient lighting, SOS and compass all without having to make any additional purchases. I use it mostly to keep from waking my husband up by having to turn lights on when I go to bed. It is easy to control in the dark or with very little light. I highly recommend this one over most of the other free ones out there. Even my grandson said I made a good choice. He is way more on top of things like this than I am.
