Worldwide convective information could be a game changer

I am so happy to see the convective threat layer working again!!!

If you are flying a business jet with WiFi access across oceans, you might find this app to be a game changer. If you fly for an airline, getting things approved for use in the cockpit is a little trickier, but you might enjoy using this on your break or during preflight. You probably already use a radar overlay in one of the aviation apps to provide the longer range strategic view that the onboard radar cannot provide. The problem is that radar is limited in coverage and is not available in many areas of the world such as oceanic areas. This app provides convective information worldwide using satellite data and some sophisticated algorithms. I would advise that you click on the link in the App Store to the developers site. I would then read the links under Global Weather Hazard, especially the link to the ATCA Journal. The profile turbulence layer is also nice. It helps you to get an idea if you should climb or descend to get a better ride.

Promising start, but not yet ready for prime time

This app might have a really good future. Some of the weather analysis tools in here are similar to the prediction models airlines use. I like being able to see a profile view of turbulence, for example. The full page ads are jarring but not too frequent. I’d still prefer to keep it to a banner though, or have a paid option (although the quality here doesn’t merit paying for it just yet).

But this still needs some work and polish. The user interface is clunky and ugly, and not particularly intuitive. Doesn’t look like a modern app at all. No en route/sectional map overlay. The time/altitude changer won’t close unless you open up settings. And the profiles display in reverse from what you input as your fight plan - ABC to DEF displays as DEF to ABC in profile view - which makes no sense at all.

I’m keeping this on my iPad to see if future updates bring this app up to speed. I really hope they do, because this could be a really useful tool, especially to GA and 135 pilots. In its current state I’ll probably only use it on rare occasions.

Full page ads = delete.

Too many ad FREE app out there to be had WITHOUT dealing with full page ads.

Save your time downloading this. I understand there is no such thing as a free lunch but there are already static ads in the app.

It is lunacy to have that AND full page ads.
