OK, Not Great
Update: I gave up on using this app for UV movies and am now using the CinemaNow app. Go check it out because it works GREAT compared to Flixster Video. //I really don't like the Ultraviolet digital movie format because I prefer to have all my movies in one application--iTunes. I chose to use the Flixster app for UV digital movies several years ago before it was split. The Flixster Video app works OK, but, like others have reported, it tends to freeze a lot. I notice this quite frequently when I have to pause and then resume. I'm using an iPad 2 running iOS 9.3.2. Flixster does offer a chat feature for technical service and this worked very well. I was told that I should close all other apps and do a hard reset on my iPad to see if that fixed the problem. This might have helped a little, but movies still freeze frequently. I wish all movie studios used the iTunes format for digital copies, or at least offered it as a choice.
A bit of a mess
The Flixster app is functional enough for providing a place to retrieve digital versions on the DVDs/Blu-Rays I have with Ultraviolet downloads, but it needs some serious attention.
Aside from looking very dated in its interface, playback is spotty and inconsistent with little annoyances like a closed-captioning track that falls behind several seconds to be misaligned with the dialogue being spoken. Audio tracks will lose sync from time to time, and audio will even completely drop out at regular intervals. Movies (even downloaded ones as opposed to streaming) tend to be non-responsive when scrubbing, the resume playback in the wrong spot, and many of my HD titles only playback in SD.
There should be more robust tools for sorting and organizing the library, better metadata access for the titles, and it seems like a huge oversight to not have chapter skipping, picture-in-picture (for iPad) or access to special features.
This could be a great app with a little attention.
Works great all the time for me!
I've used this app since its release and I've never had an issue with it functioning. I use it to watch my movie collection on TV via a Chromecast and it works perfectly every time. I also really like the nice user interface.
My one annoyance with the app is that not all movies can be viewed via a Chromecast. I just added a new movie and I can watch it on my phone but am restricted from viewing it on Chromecast? Must be a dumb copyright thing. Support actually recommended that I download a partner app instead that would let me watch it and for whatever reason I was able to watch that movie on my Chromecast. But I like the smoothness of the Flixster Video app better so I hope they fix this soon!
