Take your Japanese to the TOP LEVEL!
Love this app!!! I've been studying and speaking Japanese for years now so my reading and writing are pretty good, however when I would get into actual conversations with fluent speakers, I would always need to ask them to slow down or repeat themselves, which is frustrating. Fluentu is the KEY to bypassing this hurdle! I love the way they present the videos, explaining every word, phrase and expression LIVE and in the MOMENT so you'll really retain it and get real world application.
By training your ear (and eye) on REAL WORLD Japanese, as opposed to more sterile textbook versions, you'll see your ear quicken as well as your comprehension speed. Also, it's actually FUN to use since they use ENTERTAINING VIDEO CONTENT!

Close to excellent
The concepts behind this app are excellent. Its biggest plus is that it's wonderful for improving your listening skills, which are usually the toughest things to acquire in a second language. In particular, it's useful not just for beginning students of a language, but for advanced ones, too, which is significant in that it's much harder to find good resources for advanced language learners than for beginning ones. My one and only critique is that even if you upgrade to the paid version, you can only use the videos when you're connected. Otherwise, it's great.
Buggy
Great idea with the language learning through videos, but the execution is not good. The app is buggy, it doesn't remember your progress sometimes. Sometimes certain sections are locked, even if you're a subscriber. Most importantly - frequently the words and the audio fall out of sync, and you can't skip back or forward to correct it. Contacted tech support multiple times, they always said they were "working on it". Because of this I unsubscribe.
