Another brilliancy from Paul Halter

Dr Svensk

Paul has been at the business of creating the perfect fly fishing sim for a long time. I have owned some of his earlier fly fishing programs (plus an ice fishing sim that was a hoot). He keeps improving. This newest version of the HD sim pulls you into the experience and, just like the real thing, you know there are other things you should be doing, but you make just one more cast. Then another... :-). When I saw his half price special to get the complete set of rivers, flies, rods and leaders, I jumped on it. Regarding rod behavior, as in real life, the more I have practiced casting, the better my control. One thing - it would be nice to be able to make reach, roll and puddle casts, but I suspect that would be a programming nightmare. One easy add-on though would be a depth range data for a stretch of river - to better choose strike indicator depth and split shot. You can see the speed of the water. But, in real life, you’d assess the depth by wading it or walking to different perspective points to estimate it. Small quibble. Buy the sim. Especially for iPad, where it shines. You too can be snatching brookies at 2am instead of sleeping.

Developer Response

Thanks for your feedback! I'll give some more thought to ways to help the angler estimate the depth at various sites. I might have the guide comment if a site is deeper or shallower than one would expect. I've been considering having the guide give site-specific advice based on other features of the site or the conditions, and that might be a good way to reveal a bit more about the depth in some cases.

Thanks for your support!

Better game, much higher pay wall

Jreee

I really enjoyed the previous Fly Fishing Simulator and paid for the full version. I paid a fairly high amount to unlock the last one and finally decided to try the subscription out. Started one week and got a random river that I couldn’t choose, then the very next week I was charged 1.99 again, for the monthly subscription. So I could have just bought 4 rivers I wanted for 99 cents a piece. Good game but the pay wall detracts me from playing it.

Developer Response

The old one is still playable. But in the new HD version, the scenes are much sharper and flow much better, with 4 times the resolution and twice the frame rate of the original. Producing that meant shooting content from scratch, which requires a lot of travel and field work, plus developing river packages from the video and stills. The game itself is free, so what you pay for is the content. This content isn't just better, but it's 100% new. A new river is released every week, with 100+ shot so far, any many more to go. When a river releases on May 20th, there will be more content for new new HD version than the original. The goal is to eventually reach 200 rivers, about 8 times as much content as the old version.

Most Realistic Fishing Game Period!

Roc157

Not only is this the best fly fishing simulator (that's right way more than just a game) this is the most realistic fishing game period! The fish behave like they do in real life, sitting in between a seam in the current, or waiting in a deep pool etc. The new fly tying feature is awesome too! Thanks for taking the time to make this awesome app!
