Not worth it for new software units

99 Skylane driver

I just got a new Aspen pro 1000 installed in my Skylane. I had hoped this would give an idea of where things are. It was a little helpful but NOT worth the money until the upgrade to reflect new aspen Software. There are 15 hot key and setting pages on the actual unit this only has 11. They way they show to use things is no longer accurate. One example is the MAP declutter it is shown here on main page on the actual unit you have to go into menu and dig to page 4

Good preflight

My plane is in the shop getting an Aspen PFD installed, and I was anxious to begin familiarizing myself with the new glass ASAP. This was an unexpected upgrade after my HSI totally failed in IMC, and I didn't want to settle for rebuilt old avionics. I love my steam gages, but know the plane needs glass for future value. This program has been very helpful getting acquainted with the Aspen EFD1000. The first time through felt like overload, but got easier with each time through the main two instructional sections. I feel pretty comfortable now with the control logic and how instrument approaches will go with this instrument. A lot more is covered than what I needed since I am just adding one PFD, but if you are adding more and have a lot of GPS and autopilot feeds available, this covers those options as well.

I definitely recommend this program for getting familiar with the Aspen glass system.

Well worth the investment!

I'm learning to fly IFR in a C-182 with an Aspen 2000 and Garmin GTN750. They're an awesome combo but few CFIIs know much about either, much less the combo so I'm spending much time just figuring out the interface. I LOVE the Aspen 2000 and combined with the GTN750 delivers incredibly situational awareness but it's daunting trying to figure things out while flying. This video series is a huge help, thanks Sporty's! I'm sure I'll watch it over and over until it starts making sense. It's slightly dated but is still really good and I'm glad to have invested in it in June, 2015 and would recommend others do the same. I wish Aspen would make a sim app like Garmin did for the GTN750, it's been a huge help also!
