Put distractions out of sight and out of mind with FocusMask.
FocusMask is a simple concentration aid that allows you to hide clutter on your screen (without affecting the hidden windows). Simply point your cursor at a window on your desktop, press a keyboard shortcut, and all the other objects competing for your attention will fade away into the background.
You can also isolate only a part of a window through pattern detection, or manually highlight any part of the screen by clicking and dragging your own selection. Please see the screenshots below for a visual explanation.
• Improve your focus by fading away distractions.
• Visually highlight a single window on your desktop, a part of a window, or make your own selection.
• Customizable keyboard shortcuts
• Fully adjustable opacity
• Works with Spaces
• Supports multiple monitors
• Animated tutorial shows you how to use the application
• Uses little memory
• Helps you take better screenshots
• Hides everything, even the dock and menubar
What's New in Version 1.1
OS X 10.9 support. Added retina icon.
Pattern mode is confusing at first before watching the tour/walkthrough to the app….but it is AWESOME and is the best part of the app.
Love this. The only thing that is buggy is that FocusMask abruptly quits after you try to remap any default Keyboard Shortcuts that came with the app and does not automatically relaunch. So I bumped into this issue of remapping a bunch of the keyboard shortcuts, having the program quit, and then having to manually relaunch…but the new keyboard shortcuts I inputted were saved/retained and work just great….just a minor inconvenience when you just start using the app and customizing it that will never bother the user again (hopefully).
Helping me greatly to study for exam
I gave this app 4 stars because it is missing the one shortcut I want most. I’m using selection mode to hide half of a document, one half has questions and other half has answers, like flash cards. I was hoping I could make the selection, turn it off to check my answer and then turn it back on like an undo switch. But I’m getting around this by using the shortcuts to increase/decrease opacity instead. If this changes I will revise my review and rating to 5 stars. I would give the app 6 stars (if it were possible) if a function was added to make two selections and then use a shortcut to switch between them.
Awesome… this is what I’m talking about
The price is right for this app, and it is incredibly useful to me. Only suggestion I have is to change the menu icon color the match the dark theme now MacOS provides, because it’s practically invisible on there. Or have an option to get rid of it, which is actually better. This is not enough of an annoyance for minusing a star though.
