“The new Foursquare, like Netflix, takes a lot of the work out of finding the right thing for the right moment.” — The Verge
How It Works:
Tell Foursquare what you like — be specific, like “craft beer” or “fried chicken,” or more general, like “outdoor seating” or “romantic places.” Every search is tailored to your tastes, your past ratings, and picks from friends and experts you trust.

A note on battery –
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
What's New in Version 9.4
In this release, the Saves screen got a complete makeover (and a new name: Lists). It is now the happy home for all of the places and lists you’ve saved. It’s super useful for trip planning, sharing places, and assembling your bucket list.
Also, when you’re reading through tips on a place page (for instance, when you’re trying to decide the best thing to order), you can easily sort the tips with a single tap. It makes it easier to find what you’re looking for.
The Best Keeps Getting Better
Foursquare was already the best way to find personal recommendations and learn about the city around you. But this most recent update addresses a bunch of people's privacy issues. No need for an account, but complete access to the excellent information from the Foursquare community.
UPDATE: I've been saving places left and right! (Seriously, it's almost becoming a problem. So many good restaurants.) It's awesome when the app alerts me to a cool place but I'm just not in the mood at the moment. I can go ahead and save it to my to-do list, and Foursquare will remind me to check it out next time I'm in the area. Bonus: when I check-in on Swarm, it's automatically crossed off my to-do list. I'm also a big fan of the new Lists tab; that was a great feature in the old Foursquare that's coming back and I'm excited!
Contextual recs just keep getting better
I must admit that I'm a bit disappointed with contextual (real-time) notifications. I don't mind passively sharing my location with 4SQ, but I expect for it to work both ways. I just spent an entire day in a new city without receiving any passive recs. This is the fifth time (4th different city) that has happened. What are you doing with all of these awesome tips that we're posting?
I've been using foursquare consistently since 2009, and I was among the first 40,000 users. It's sad to see that some of my favorite features (points, leaderboard, and badges) have now been removed. Said gamification elements compelled me to get out and explore the world around me.
That said, I'm excited to see where this new direction, that Foursquare is embarking upon, leads the company. With all the data that they are now gathering with "Pilgrim", passive recs should improve greatly in the coming weeks and months.
Foursquare is now better than it’s ever been. I’m going to remain a loyal user of an app that has brought so much fun, joy, and adventure into my life over the years.
Love it!! Screw Yelp!
Foursquare is my go to app for discovering new restaurants and bars. The user interface is very beautiful and easy to navigate. Foursquare allows you to customize your searches by letting you select your tastes.
The Lists feature is my favorite feature!!! I've created individual lists for cities I want to travel to and have been. When I'm ready to go to a place, I have a list of restaurants at my finger tips.
Try out Swarm by Foursquare!! Swarm is a fun check in app and works really well with Foursquare. You can still be mayor of your favorite restaurant or bar!!! The only difference is that your a mayor in Swarm. Foursquare+Swarm=❤️
