“The new Foursquare, like Netflix, takes a lot of the work out of finding the right thing for the right moment.” — The Verge
How It Works:
Tell Foursquare what you like — be specific, like “craft beer” or “fried chicken,” or more general, like “outdoor seating” or “romantic places.” Every search is tailored to your tastes, your past ratings, and picks from friends and experts you trust.

A note on battery –
We've spent years developing the location technology that powers Foursquare, making it extremely power efficient. But, as with all apps of this type, please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
What's New in Version 8.11.1
This release contains critical fixes for the Foursquare widget and Apple Watch improvements.
Tired of wearing your iPhone on your wrist? Good news! This version of Foursquare includes an app for your Apple Watch. And it’s really slick. When you're out and about, it'll let you know when you're near something awesome. You can also easily search the best spots nearby, and quickly find out what’s best when you get there.
Also in this release, on your iPhone:
- A new history tab. With just one tap from the homescreen, you can see a list of the recent places you’ve been and quickly rate them.
- Quick access to nearby places. Tap on the search box and you will see the three closest places, so you can easily find out the best dish at the restaurant you’re at.
- As always, there’s some speed improvements and bug fixes as well.
Update: this app has been ruined. Swarm is the new checkin app and it's not very good. Foursquare is supposed to be a super advanced personalized recommendation engine, but based on 3,000 checkins all over the county the top recommendation is a bar. I don't even drink, and have never checked into a bar before. Foursquare should know that with all the data it has collected about me. So much for your fancy personalized search.
Foursquare offers great recommendations on places to go in town. I find the foursquare recommendations to be better than yelp or urban spoon because they are based on more than just a rating. Foursquare will tell you which places have a good rating but also which places are popular and have returning customers. I have found some amazing restaurants with it. If you are not getting good recommendations it could be because you are not checking in or there are not enough people in your town checking in.
I also love checking in and exporting my checkins to google maps to see all my travels. Overall this is a great app and is a lot of fun! Have been using it daily since over 3 years.
Godo place for Puerto Rican food
1st time at this location. Location looks clean and spacious. Food was good and service good as well. My only observation would be to get a receipt with a detail of what it was consumed and the employees being a little bit more knowledgeable about Puerto Rican food. For eg I asked for a "Sandwich Boricua" which is in fact a"tripleta" with "bacalaito". They didn't had the bacalaito which is not a deal breaker for me really. The thing is the Waitress was going back to a "jibarito" which isn't was I wanted and she noticeable wasn't comfortable to answer some basic questions about Puerto Rican food. After all being said and done it's a place that I can come back to give them another try.
I used to love her…
The old FourSquare was a dear, dear friend. Every 5 check-ins at my local comic book shop got me a free $5 towards their backstock. Every check-in at Wow Bao got me free Bao.
Now these checkin specials are dead.
I love the *idea* behind the new Foursquare and I thought this switch would be great. The truth of the matter is now, I use both apps combined far less than I used to use the old Foursquare. For the most part the fun is gone.
The genius behind Foursquare was the gamification element. Now that's removed and Swarm is all game with no practical use. In truth both apps are now functionally pointless on a day to day basis. Next time I take a road trip to a new city I'll use the new Foursquare and I'm sure it'll be great, but for now I'm just regretfully deleting if from my phone. I don't want to, but they've killed something I used to love and opening the new one just leaves me bewildered and sad.
