FoxHunt™ for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S
An app for Direction Finding / Search and Rescue
Pinpointing the location of a target — one you can see or one you can identify by radio signal — using map, compass, and ruler is a tedious and error-prone process. FoxHunt brings the power of iPhone to this task and makes locating targets easier.
Spot the target, point your iPhone at it, and tap the on-screen button. Your position and heading are recorded. Move to another location and repeat. Two bearings on the target let FoxHunt plot the probable location of your target clearly on a map. Adding more bearings allows FoxHunt to pinpoint your target more accurately. Once the target has been mapped, driving directions are just a tap away on your iPhone.
FoxHunt was designed specifically to support amateur radio direction finding. Add your favorite receiver and antenna to your kit, and off you go. But FoxHunt can also be used in other applications where bearings to the target are available by other means, including visual spotting of landmarks.
What's New in Version 1.2.1
This release fixes several bugs related to
* Selection of bearings in the bearing table
* Deleting bearings
I really like the app, and hope to actually take it on a fox hunt someday. I plan to use it for geocaching and finding hard to locate caches on those days where the GPS isn't up to par. I do have two complaints one minor and one major. First off, it'd be nice if the iPhone 5 screen was fully supported but that's minor. My biggest gripe is the ads... Seriously... They take up a good portion of the already small screen and are irrelevant. I'd gladly fork over a dollar for the option to remove them. That's more than you'd make off my viewing them anyways...
I hope this app continues to be improved,

I love the idea of this app.
I would however like to see the option to cache the map data with a variable capacity limit on the size of the map cache and map radius size. this would be very useful when there is no internet connectivity. For example when you are in the wilderness or during a disaster when cell networks are not available.
The ability to determine the altitude/hight of the what you are aiming at based on the iphones current gps location/altitude, compass heading and angle off the horizon would be awesome as well. Also utilizing the iphone camera for more accurate compass and angular sighting on the target would be a big improvement as well.
Please look into these apps that do the above mentioned features. Please incorporate their features to improve accuracy of FoxHunt: "theodolite pro", "Aim4Distance", & "DistanceCam".
Works as delivered
Sure it's not a surveyors transit, but it works way better than anything you could purchase for 99 cents, and probably better than you could get for a hundred bucks, so for all the whiners who gave it one star, put some more tape on you nerd glasses and shut up.
