The Freading application is for reading EPUB books and PDF books. The application was developed for users of the Freading Ebook Service.
The Freading (free reading) Ebook Service was developed by Library Ideas, LLC and is sold to libraries of all types around the world. End users are registered cardholders of participating libraries. Check with your local library for participation.
The end user should use their browser to navigate the library website, then download the book from a library website into this application. Once in the application, the EPUB or PDF book can be explored and read.
The Freading application is designed to lend full support for Adobe DRM and uses Adobe ID for Authentication.
The Freading application includes many features that you would expect for a good reading experience such as tap or swipe to turn pages, remembering the last page read, and selectable text size.
What's New in Version 2.1
Contains optimizations for iOS 8.
Unreliable and poor interface
I dislike this app greatly. At present, it won't load for me. I downloaded a book two days ago and the app was working. A few hours later I went to read it and it wouldn't load. I closed the app from running in the background and restarted my device but still I go. Two days later and the app still won't load. I've even double checked I have the most up to date version.
Aside from this recent load issue the app is pretty bad. I don't find it to be particularly user friendly but would give it about 2 or 3 stars for usability and readability. Even before this most recent issue with loading I would avoid borrowing books from my library that required I use the Freading app.
The app forces you to type in your library card info every time you want to look for books which is counterintuitive to the supposed convenience of an app. The device I'm using the app on has its on security function. Forced personal data reentry is needlessly redundant and deters me from using this otherwise passable app in favor of another offered by my library that keeps the personal data stored.
Wasn't working, now it's working
The message below was what was happening but now it works. I guess you just have to keep trying.
Keeps sending me to the state library website and won't let me check out books.
It keeps giving this error message- You have successfully signed in to this site. However, you do not have rights to access this area.
Doesn't anyone at the library or IT use this app?
