Low Cost = Low Quality

This “free” service (hint: You WILL be paying something just to get started, other than the cheap SIM card, which provides only cellular data functionality) is good for those who don’t expect much from a mobile service provider.

For me, it was the loss of my ability to use many of my iPhone’s native functions, such as ringtones, calling from apps or websites by clicking linked phone numbers, and sharing content from apps in messages. This app (which must be used for calls and messages) is somewhat bugged; half of the messages I received were jumbled. Also, the number you receive is a VoIP number, meaning some sites will not accept it to sign up for their services. This calls into question whether FP can be used to dial emergency services when needed, as I know some VoIP services don’t allow emergency calls.

FP DID have one feature I found to be neat, being the visual voicemail. However, it’s not enough to keep me. If FP finds a way for its iOS users to be able to keep using their native Phone, Messaging, and Contacts apps, I will consider returning.

Ok , as long as you know what you are getting.

I use the free service only as I rarely use a phone when not on wifi so I can live with the low data and voice. It runs as an app on top of my iPhone so you don't use the native call or messaging, though iMessage works with other iPhones if you want and if on wifi that was not counted as a text in the Freedom pop account. My wife doesn't like to use my phone because you need to open an app first, but it doesn't bother me. Service can be spotty and sometimes text delivery delayed but again I can use imesssging to get around that with other iPhone users. One bonus was that I was able to make calls from Europe when on wifi even without paying for any international plan because it is IP based. Several limitations but for my limited use of it for mostly texting over wifi it has been great for me.

Don't bother updating to the latest . . .

The version before this one served me quite well, vibrating when an incoming call would come and refreshing the text message section whenever I would enter it.
Decided to update after reading how they fixed the voicemail playback being too quiet glitch along with resending a "sending. . ." text. But this update wasn't worth it. It removed enjoyable features such as copying select portions of your texts. Not to mention it's been more glitchy. A few times I got a notification of a new text and when I would tap it to check what friends wrote, nothing showed up. Plus, there have been quite a few annoying occasions where an ongoing call no longer even rings and just tells me that I missed the call.
(I've been a paying customer for over 20 months now)
