Freeform - The Vector Drawing App
By Stunt Software
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Freeform is a vector drawing tool for your iPad. Create quick sketches, mockups, or diagrams with this powerful tool. Export your drawings via email in JPG, PNG, or PDF formats, or save to your photo library. Create new designs whenever or wherever inspiration strikes!
Freeform's features include:
• Easy to use shape tools: Oval, Rectangle, Line, Polygon, and Star, with adjustable settings.
• Custom path creation. Sketch a quick shape with your finger, or tap to start a shape, then tap and drag to add additional points with fine control.
• Linear and Radial gradient fills for objects, with the ability to add multiple color stops.
• Boolean operations. Combine two shapes into one, or use one shape to cut a hole in another.
• Path modification - add and remove control points from shapes or paths. Add or remove curve handles from points.
• Full undo and redo support.
We've got many more exciting features on the way - thanks for all of the suggestions! Please visit our forums if there's something you think is missing from Freeform:
We want to hear from you and together make Freeform the best drawing tool out there.
What's New in Version 1.1
Boolean operations on objects (union, subtraction, intersection, and exclusion) so shapes can be combined with or cut holes out of other shapes.
Gradient fills - shapes can be filled with linear or radial gradients, with multiple color stops.
Improved path creation. Tap once to start a path, then tap and drag to create the next point and modify it's curve handles during path creation.
Added the ability to add and remove control points on a path. Double-tap or tap and hold on a point to remove it, or on any location along a path to add a point.
Added the ability to add or remove curve handles from points on a path. Double-tap or tap and hold a control point to change it to a smooth curve or sharp point.
Several other bug fixes and enhancements.
Getting better, but still needs some basic features
Very good ui and solid basic functionality. Really nice ui for creating presets. The following criticisms are intended to help to help program improve, not scare you away.
It's hard to do things like delete several objects at once (you need to group them then delete the group). Some objects can only be scaled proportionately, while others cannot be scaled proportionately. Two finger rotation is nice but no ability to rotate by precise amounts. Still no grid or snapping. No text and no arrows. The only way to make an object with no border is to make the border transparent. It would be nice to be able to add shapes to a palette and then reuse them.
Amended: this app is now starting to look like abandonware, so I'm lowering my rating in frustration.
Needs one more feature
Ok so first let me start by saying that I've been looking for a descent graphics design app for some time now on the app store and I've purchased many different apps that seemed like they would suit my needs and this app is the one that comes closest to doing that, however, it lacks one very crucial element. That element or feature is the ability to import photos or png files. I've got a number of different projects that I could make look tons better with this app but I can't load anything in to build upon the framework that I have already built and would really really rather not have to begin from scratch with them. Would you please, please take a little time to add this feature? I would be incredibly grateful.
This app is potentially heading towards being the best vector drawing app on the iPad. Out of several drawing and sketching premiere apps I have tried, this has the best interface for efficient workflow, the best gesture support, and it is the most feature-full (including Boolean operations!). It is however not there yet. The most salient shortcoming is in export: copying an object in the app, then switching to another like Keynote, you cannot paste the copied graphics! You can export to the photo library, but it is rasterized and the vector information is lost! You can email a PDF as a workaround, but that is certainly not the way you want to work. No svg export either. Solid export functionality would make this app first rate.
