Not terrible but a bit annoying
I’m not going to complain about the music selection because it’s free and I’ve enjoyed what I downloaded. The annoying parts are that it took me a bit to figure out the app. The first week I thought I’d downloaded the songs but I hadn’t and because I didn’t, I lost that week’s allotment and had to try again the following week, thus wasting another week’s allotment on the same songs.
The biggest complaint is that I have to repeatedly sign in. Most, if not all, of the apps I have, retain your log in info and just go straight to your content. Not Freegal...it logs me out each and every time, which wouldn’t be the end of the world if it didn’t require me to remember my library account number for each log and in. I guess it wouldn’t even be so bad if it auto-populated the account number each time and just expected me to remember the password. I don’t know about everyone else, but I certainly don’t memorize the 12-14 digit account number for much of anything...my brain is already too full. FREEGAL would do well to have the system remember the account number or just expect you to log in once to open the app in full. Annoying.
Unusable, giving up using this app
Since the latest update, now creating a playlist from downloaded music is very laborious with several steps needed for each and every song you add. Also there’s no way to sort downloaded music by title or artist so it’s a random jumble and very time consuming to look for a particular song. When playing downloaded music without creating a playlist it doesn’t move to the next song but is stuck on repeat for whatever song was previously selected with no option to change that. Basically it’s almost unusable at this point. It’s so bad now that you gotta wonder if it’s on purpose to prevent access for some reason. Giving up on it. Letting my local library know they are wasting their money in purchasing this service.
Good for old music but poor updates.
This is a great source of old music. I found a lot of 50s through 90s music that I wanted to add to my library. There is some recent music, but not items that I would normally search for.
The latest update has changed the user interface to the extent that I consider it broken. Many searches and displays o longer work. Data, such as release dates and publishers, is now missing. Titles are shortened and con only be displayed temporarily when placing a pointer over the shortened title.
The lists are also displayed with tiny icons and fonts. This is a problem for people with poor eyesight and defeats one of the features of using a tablet with a large screen.
