The Frog Finder searches worldwide frog and toad distributions and tells you which species may occur nearby, or in any location you choose.
The app uses spatial data provided by the 2010 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Search results show intersections between map coordinates and IUCN ranges for 5561 of the world's frog and toad species. The app also provides related species information through automated searches of web resources such as AmphibiaWeb and Wikipedia.
The Frog Finder was developed by Seungkeol Choe and Jeff Rice, with support from the J. Willard Marriott Library in conjunction with the Western Soundscape Archive and the Encyclopedia of Puget Sound.
I recently encountered an unknown frog species while on a walk and wondered if there might be an app to help me identify it… this is it! After downloading and installing this app I was able to ID the frog in seconds. Very handy and worked great.
Note that this app requires a data connection to work. It searches the Internet for a list of frog species at your present or desired location, displays the results, and allows you to view online information.
