More filler than crab, more bread than cake
I’ve ordered from Galley occasionally since they 1st started and largely have enjoyed my meals especially the crab cake with green beans and potatoes as well as the lobster pot pie. Yesterday I ordered one of my favorites - the crab cake and this time with a toffee cake as dessert. What a disappointment!
The crab cake recipe certainly has changed!! Now, it’s mostly filler and not much crab. I felt like I was eating a breadcrumb cake instead of a crab cake. I actually couldn’t taste or even see the crab anymore. The best part of the meal was the green beans. Those were crispy, well seasoned and delicious.
The cake. Sigh. The cake. The cake wasn’t cake. It was over-mixed and over-baked so has a thick, doughy, heavy, stodgy consistency like slightly sweet bread gone wrong. To add insult to injury, the buttercream frosting was just grainy, separated buttercream. It was bad. Like, really bad. Ugghhh. At least you can still manage to choke down what’s now being called a crab cake if you mix it with the green beans but this cake was rough. It was inedible.
All in all, I was really disappointed with this meal. I may try the lobster pot pie if it ever comes back on their menu but if this crab cake shows what the meals are like now, I may hold off on that too. I’ll probably only ever get a berry crisp from them. I hope that recipe hasn’t changed as well. I’m staying away from cake from now on.
Outstanding customer service
I was impressed with Galley the first time I ordered from them and they continue to do so. Last night my order was delayed due to heavy traffic in the city. I received a call advising me that the driver is running behind and apologizing for the inconvenience. The driver was very apologetic as well when he arrived. That was good enough for me (dinner was delicious after all). But today I received an email once again apologizing for the delay and saying that my account has been credited for the full cost of my dinner. Totally unexpected and much appreciated. If I considered myself a customer before, now I'd call myself a loyal customer. Thanks guys!
Love the variety of the dinners provided. I recommend warming your food in the oven than using the microwave. The delivery people are all very pleasant. I usually tip in cash although there is a tip option to put it on your credit card. Also, I love the new option of paying a monthly fee for your deliveries. You can’t beat paying a $20 monthly delivery fee for meals that average $13 to $16 dollars. I use this service almost everyday!!! I have been dealing with a sick parent, running a business and trying to maintain some balance in my life. Galley gives me that balance that I need.
