Preferred the PC version
My kids and I have played the PC version of Garden Panic for years. My son still hauls out the level editor and has a grand time creating new levels for us to try. Tons of fun.
I was thrilled to see GP for iPad and hoped that it'd be as much of a family favorite. The Survival Mode is a great idea, but the pacing is awful. I've managed to win 3 out of the 5 Survival levels, and only at silver; the other 2 are more annoying than fun. I'd gladly trade the Survival Mode for the old level editor... my son can easily make more balanced levels than the ones included here (and he knows how to make *enjoyable* killer levels 8-) I've hit the end of the survival levels and had my iPad dogging to keep up, while bugs sneak by and plants just sit there (and, yes, I know which plants shoot at which types of bugs). Even a target choice option would be great (e.g. shoot at first bug or strongest bug or weakest bug)... I've lost too many levels when plants go after healthy bugs and let almost dead bugs by... and then they all get through.
To sum up: if I have a choice (i.e. if I'm home) I'll play the PC version instead of this. After a bit the iPad version becomes annoying.
Love this game. It IS challenging and has gobbled up hours of my time. I have managed to get gold on all the levels except for 25 and 27 but still enjoy playing them over and over to see if I can beat them. My kids really enjoy this game also. I still haven't figured out the point of the poison flower. It says it is for rodents but none of the levels have a rodent that I've seen. I also wish it kept track of my scores for each level so I could try to beat my best score and see if I'd improved. Overall, a great game. Can't wait for the sequel!
Computer vs. iPad
I have this game on my PC and just finished playing some of the levels on my iPad and there are some differences between the two. However, I really enjoy both. I like the characters in the iPad version and strategy is still extremely important in both versions of this game. I really enjoy it and I think anyone who likes strategic games with a bit of a challenge to them will enjoy it, too. I hope they do a sequel to it soon.
