What's New in Version 4.2.4
Flaws Reduce Usability of a Good App
I am currently the top-ranked poster in GasBuddy's Detroit region. I have a lot of experience with their app.
For safety, they ask you to confirm you're a passenger before providing updates. I'm okay with that. But after you confirm, it does not continue on to your request. It takes you backwards and forces you to make the request again. Very inefficient and frustrating design. It also asks you to confirm you're a passenger when you're not in a car. Too often I'm in the store posting its gasoline prices only to have to confirm I'm not driving.
Another recent introduction is an ad banner at screen bottom asking me to click to see if I've won a $100 gift card at Sam's Club. I'm not going to do that. But the thing won't go away, and it blocks my ability to update the prices of the fuel grades it covers up. So the app wants me to post gasoline prices and then it prevents me from doing so. Sorry E-85 users, but I cannot tell you the prices 'cause GasBuddy won't let me!
Not a fan of new version
I had resisted updating my app after reading reviews but I changed phones and was rewarded with the latest Gas Buddy version anyway.
I liked how before when you opened the app you could set it to go right to prices without tapping the first screen. Now I have to tap the screen to get to prices. I really dont care what the lowest priced gas in Louisiana or the US is, I want to see stations near me.
I usually try to enter all grades of fuel at stations that show prices but now with the new display and ads I am unable to enter more than 3 fuel prices because the ad covers up the lower part of my phone screen.
The version is also much slower now to update location.
Gas Buddy is a great app but please stop thinking you need to come out with new bells and whistles regularly to have people like it.
Update makes it harder to use; leaderboard inaccurate
The newest version of the app often does not accept price entries until you've tried 2-3 times and then STILL shows the red and green wrong/right price bar after you've put in the price. The app doesn't tie in to the phone GPS very well; often showing far away stations as closer and the pump you're sitting at as 1.82 miles away. And you gotta love when entering prices for the station you're sitting at only to see the prices post for another station some distance away.
Still problems with gross price errors. The price data entered by newbies is often wrong both as to prices and as to fuels sold, and I haven't seen GasBuddy taking steps to correct that. It's their reputation; you'd think they'd step up. I've entered corrections to the MSL to little effect.
