Customer Reviews

Disappointed (and I wish I wasn't, because I love Geocaching)

Years ago, there were 2 Geocaching apps on the App Store. One was the free one that I'm writing the review on, and the other was something named "Geocaching Classic," which is no longer on the App Store. Given it has been years since I have purchased it, I do not remember the price paid, but I believe it was around $10. This "new" Geocaching app that Groundspeak has released has not only taken away all of the features I paid for in the classic app, but quite frankly, it has ruined Geocaching for me as a whole. I used to be able to look at the lists of geocaches nearby that had always intrigued me, but I can no longer do that because lists are a feature only available to premium members. I also can only access geocaches with 1 and 1/2 difficulty or less, which wasn't the case with the classic app. Simply put, I can no longer go Geocaching as conveniently and as enjoyably as I could before, with the "classic" Geocaching app. Worst of all, I cannot be refunded directly by Groundspeak, and instead, I would have to deal with contacting Apple themselves. Like I said earlier, I used to eagerly go geocaching with friends and family with the classic geocaching app, but I no longer can. Unless you plan on paying to purchase a premium membership, don't bother downloading this app.

Downgrade from Geocaching Classic

Very disappointed with this new app for several reasons. 1, I paid for Geocaching Classic and now am no longer able to access it or any of its features, several of which were left out of this new version. 2, I now need a premium membership to find "Advanced Traditionals". Well in that case I guess I'll just use my phone's browser instead. 3, I now cannot create my own lists without a membership. Before the lists didn't sync, which was perfectly fine as I didn't have a membership.

A suggestion, refund everyone who purchased Geocaching Classic or provide us with a free year membership, then maybe we'll be hooked on this new app since it was clearly made for premium members.

The opposite of intuitive

I really wanted to like this when it came out. I tried it. I gave it time for improvements. Sorry, but I just can't find my way around with the symbols and icons. I doesn't function the way I want it to. As a premium member, I had no problem or complaint with restrictions. I just can't make it work for me. Today, I got an email advising that I had a TB in a cache that had been archived with a link to the cache to learn what may have happened. When I used the link it opened the app which stated the cache number was invalid. That was the last straw; after this review, I'm removing it from my phone. I wish I could rate this less than one star as it is useless.
