It's great but can always be better.
I started geocaching in March. I have only used this app to log hundreds of finds. I don't mind paying the membership, as I would rather be a premium member any way. Why wouldn't you? There have been minor updates such as lists that I have taken advantage of since I downloaded it. Over all, I really enjoy it. I don't mind going to the website to log favorite points or logging a TB visit without writing something. The website is much better anyway. I have been in quite a few situations where there was no phone service and I was unable to pull up descriptions and hints on the caches but the distance to GZ had always been about as accurate as is reasonable and have made many finds with the help of my geosenses. I really have nothing bad to say about it, but he more features that are updated that correspond with what's available via the website will make it that much better. Such as marking favorites and adding more than one photo to logs, and logging TB visits quicker. In addition I have used the compass on the app to screen shot coordinates for hides and they have been reported as spot on. If you're going to geocache this app is a no brainier. I highly recommend it.
I miss the old app!
There are several functions that were on the old app that didn't carry over to this app. I miss being able to scroll through my search list for as long as I wanted. Now they only let you search from a predetermined radius of your search unless you close and move to a different area of the map once you've reached the end of you search. Please either 1) let us have access to the old app especially since we paid $9.99 for it or 2) add back all of the functions from the old app to the new one, to include favorite points and being able to disable a cache you are doing maintenance on from the app.
That being said there are some pros to this app. I like that when you use the navigate to cache program it'll automatically put the cords in my gps program on my phone so I can drive there without having to watch the app while driving. I also like that the map is an active map and will follow you while driving so you can see the caches around you.
I definitely think the two apps could have been merged together better and until that happens I would suggest using the old app.
It works, but I prefer the old version
Change is often hard, even when it's a good thing. But with that said I believe this new version of the app leaves a bit to be desired...
The good - I like the added ease of messaging other cachers and the option to automatically contact them after logging a find on an earth or virtual cache. I also like the added interactiveness of the map. However, that's really where the positives end for me.
The bad - cannot award fave points when logging, unable to view attributes anywhere (this is kind of a biggie), unable to search by cache name, and the map doesn't automatically zoom when you are driving toward a cache. This last one may be nit-picky but it's something I really liked about the old version.
All in all, it works. I don't have the issues of not finding higher d/t caches but I'm a paying member, and for the purpose of caching it does the job well enough. However, if I had the option to go back and reload the previous version and delete this one I would.
