What's New in Version 5.2
You can now attach photos and favorite points to drafts!
Bonus: see which caches have drafts, retrieve existing drafts while logging, and view geocache details from your list of drafts.
In every release, we also fix bugs and make other small improvements:
- Improved handling of timestamps.
- Added a Nearby Geocaches widget.
Ignore the negative reviews if you're serious about Geocaching.
The other reviewers are complaining about how in order to view ALL difficulty caches, you must pay. ...so? This is an incredible experience with a very active and supportive company and community. The company DESERVES to get paid! If all aspects of the geocaching were free, there would be no incentive to pay for premium which is how these people make a living. If you're just meddling around with geocaching, the free version is enough to get a feel for it but once you really want to be a part of the community, you really should pay the inexpensive $9.99 per 3 months.
Back in the day, the reason people bought premium was to have offline access to the descriptions and routes because people used real GPSr. Nowadays, those aren't needed to play so they have to put restrictions on other things in order to make people want to buy premium. Be logical about it before you send in a negative review, because these people gotta eat too!
Bad subscription model
I totally agree with the majority of people here. We played because it was a fun and low cost outdoor activity. I paid for the legacy app happily because it was a set cost paid once. My busy schedule doesn't always allow me time to play so I would have to go a few months between my hunts. Now that they've removed support for the app, and placed anything above "easy" caches behind a subscription I don't think I'll ever bother playing again. I understand business practices but there are better ways of making money than hiding everything behind a monthly payment plan. I'd rather sit through a few ads but still have access to the game than pay monthly for something I'd only get to use half the year.
I'm out and taking my geocaches with me
Still feel the same with the latest update.
A clever ploy changing the name of a feature in order to change the version number and try to get a reset for the poor reviews on the current version.
It gets poor reviews not because the app is bad but because loyal geocachers are now going to be charged for the hobby. Ironic because the whole enterprise relies upon the VOLUNTEER work of people who plant geocaches.
I am fine with charge a few bucks every couple of years to pay for development of new features for the app, but a resent an annual membership fee to see any but the easiest caches -- especially when I am one of the VOLUNTEERS planting caches for you.
I've been geocaching for years. I signed in for the community activity and did my part -- giving my time and money to set up and maintain geocaches and tags to contribute as much as I took from the hobby. Now I have to pay to see anything but the simplest caches.
How about if you pay me for my time maintaining the caches that you charge for.
Shame on you. I'm out -- although I wonder if I am now even allowed to see my own caches to close them down!
