Description

A game I made
For a certain kind of person

To hurt them.

• Climb up an enormous mountain with nothing but a hammer and a pot.
• Listen as I make philosophical observations about the problem at hand.
• Between 2 and ∞ hours of agonizing gameplay, depending. The median time to finish for my playtesters was 5 hours, but the mean was closer to ∞.
• Lose all your progress, over and over.
• Feel new types of frustration you didn't know you were capable of.

Life Simulator

Asy Art

Getting Over It is, I'll admit, rage inducing, but it is also like therapy. Not therapy like adult coloring books, or orchestrated music, But its own type of therapy. It is frustrating. It is rage inducing. It will make you want to pull your hair out.
Oddly comparable to life. Like Getting Over It, life itself is frustrating, rage inducing, and makes you want to pull your hair out. In a way, Getting Over It is kind of like a "life simulator."
Like the small victory of getting over the first tree, for example. It makes you feel good, right? Then seconds later, you're climbing your way up the mountain for the first time, and you take your first fall at the shed roof. Frustrating. Then, Usually, Bennet comforts you. "Don't let it get to you." -Bennet Foddy
Along the way, you come across the parallel rocks with the two lanterns. It takes you forever, but eventually you make it up there! You overcome treacherous obstacles. You may fall, and have to start aaallllll over again. Like in life, when you miss a house payment or get a bad grade on your report card. But you can do better. You can make it up. You can get back where you were. After all, "You've done it before. You know it's possible. Just do what you did the first time." -Bennet Foddy
Basically, what I'm saying is, Getting Over It teaches you how to cope with the frustrations of life. You should give it a try.

Great game, one annoying issue with iPhone X

I definitely like this game. It’s completely maddening, but that’s the point. Total Sisyphusian dilemma in game form, except instead of rolling a rock you’re using a hammer to climb the mountain for some reason. Here’s my complaint: the purposefully-frustrating controls are made worse with the new swipe for home feature on iPhone X. I’m currently stuck on a part that requires quick movement, and I’ve continually found myself inadvertently closing the app while I’m alllllllmost up to the next peak. Needless to say, this is making a frustrating challenge absolutely enraging. Despite this, I truly enjoy the game, and I’m sure I will continue playing until I beat it or destroy my phone trying. All this said, this game is for a certain type of person. If a $5 iOS game where you’re a man in a sloshing cauldron using a hammer to painstakingly climb a mountain of nonsense sounds at all interesting to you, it’s highly recommended. If not let me recommend the game Ballz, it’s also fun and has a really good name.
