Ratings and Reviews
New update is atrocious
I typically refrain from writing negative reviews but I need to speak up about this. First, let me say that I love that my son has his GizmoPal. He’s part of a walking school district and it takes a lot of stress off my mind. The app, however, is a different story. This new update (which isn’t even reflected in the images) is a disorganized mess. Nothing about it is intuitive. It also randomly sends location updates to every person in my family that uses the app despite the fact that I have zero scheduled. My son’s GizmoPal has nine slots for pre-programmed text messages but this app (which erased all of the messages I had set in the older version) only has eight slots available to customize. Why?!?! Lastly, I find it slimy that the new app now requires the creation of an account via an email address. Several people that use this app in our family do NOT want to be forced to give over an email address. Furthermore, one of them doesn’t even use email.
Is something going to be done to fix this app? If you are going to force your customers to use one app in order to communicate with their children, why have you done such an utterly garbage job with its creation? This update was a major step backwards and quite possibly enough to make me decide to forgo his GizmoPal all together and look into a phone.
Used to be much more reliable
We’ve had the Gizmo for roughly a year and earlier versions of the app were much more reliable and accurate. I love the product and the ability to contact my son, particularly when the school misplaced him by putting him on the wrong bus (more than once). However, the last few versions of the app (since around the time the user-interface changed) have become less and less reliable.
The GPS used to show him very close to his actual location, but it now averages 2-3 blocks away from his physical location. This also means the location check-ins are useless. Another incredibly annoying and unhelpful bug is that for some reason, the app will no longer keep me signed in. More often than not, I have to re-enter my entire log-in information and wait (sometimes for minutes...seriously, my phone will go to sleep) for the app to log-in so that I can check on and/or contact my son. This is incredibly unhelpful.
The most disappointing thing of all is that until the last couple of months, I didn’t have these problems. I know the potential that the product and app offer when working properly. Hopefully they will soon get it worked out so that we can truly rely on the product again.
Don’t buy they are to lazy to fix or give the basic features to a device that is advertised as being able to text.
Response to devs. If the new product can send text when a required app to a friend with out that friend being a caregiver why can’t this be done for the gizmo gadget. My son can text me and my wife but for him to be able to text his grandma who doesn’t want all the functions of the app I have to make her a caregiver. How his friend how has a cellphone and can use the app. I have to make that person a caregiver just to allow them to text my son. This is stupid. You can’t tell me that this cant be changed. Since we all know the gizmo gadget can text. I’ve lowered my rating because of the response.
This works pretty well. The location can be slow to update sometimes. And there is no option for gizmo buddy so that people can text him and call without having all the caregiver features. This is a major issue for me. This is also the reason I only gave 2 stars. This was the selling point for me getting the watch and he can only text me and his mother. Oh and I can’t make my wife (his mother) a guardian. Which is also crap.
Thank you for your feedback. I completely agree with you with the ability of multiple guardians. Not only does it make it easier for parents to manage gizmo it gives both more power to control all the settings. These features are supported in the new app, but the GizmoPal & Gadget are not capable of the new features that have been added to the app. Currently, this is only supported by the GizmoWatch which also packs a few new features. If you have additional feedback or questions, you can reach us by in-app "share feedback" under more.
With Family Sharing set up, up to six family members can use this app.
