"Goldilocks Earth" Review
“Goldilocks Earth” seems like it has the potential to be a great teaching tool. It covers a variety of concepts with interactive visuals that help the viewer to comprehend what is going on.
I thought the best feature of “Goldilocks Earth” was “The Moon” section, especially the “Faces of the Moon” page. With the visuals of the Moon rotating around Earth with the Sun and the phase of the moon at the same time, it really got the viewer to understand moon phases to a great extent. I would improve the “Faces of the Moon” page by allowing the viewer to press where they wanted the Moon to be if they didn’t feel like waiting for the Moon to come around the circle.
The main limitation of this app for me was that every time I wanted to go back to the Home Page, “Goldilocks Earth” crashed. Also, it showed the orbit of Earth around the Sun as a circle instead of an ellipse. Finally, I think this app would be great if it had many more sections. If these were improved in an update, I think “Goldilocks Earth” would definitely be 5 Stars.
This app really helped me understand different parts of science that I had been confused about. For example, how the pull of gravity is always towards the center of the earth no matter where you are on the earth. It also shows things like how long the revolution around the sun would talk depending on how close or far the object is. Sometimes I get confused between stars and planets etc; this application is very helpful and good at explaining the differences.
Great App to Get Kids Excited About Science
I used this app as part of a “High Tech” Fair exhibit for middle to high school students. It was a big hit with all the students. They all seemed to easily grasp the concepts from general solar system mechanics to the role Jupiter plays in protecting the Earth, which happened to be the most popular feature. I think this app is a great example of a way to use this technology to get kids interested in science in a fun and cutting edge way.
All around solid app.
