amazing, but needs two improvements
I have been using this app for some 3 months, after searching and working with many other apps like one-note, notability, foxit and so on. It is by far superior to all of them. It is amazingly simple and efficient and syncs almost instantly between my ipad mini 4 and ipad pro (unlike one-note which takes hours to do so). I can take long pages of notes and annotate pdf files on it very easily. On the tabs above the page, you can move freely between various open documents. You can also insert extra pages in between the pages of a document. You can easily recolor, resize, copy and paste and do a lot of other things. It is the best apps if you want to take notes and do calculations and write essays and read a lot of material from articles and pdf files. There are only two features which I like to see in a new update:
1- The icons for cut, copy and paste be fixed at the top of the page. In the present version, they pop up when you want with a mili-second of delay.
2- The pages can be organized vertically (like the one note) if you want so that when you scroll down you go to the next pages. This features is very useful when you do calculations and write essays and want to go back and forth between your calculations and notes. In the present version they are organized only horizontally like a notebook.
Problems with iCloud Sync!!
In terms of features and functionality, Goodnotes really is the best app on the App Store for taking notes. I have tried Evernote, OneNote and Notability, all of which are usually recommended in other reviews, but none have compared to Goodnotes.
You might ask then: Why did I feel the need to try other apps in the first place after using Goodnotes for over two years? Because of the INFURIATING problem this app has when syncing documents to iCloud. For months now, despite the various updates the developers have issued and 4 attempts to resolve the issue on my part, nothing has changed the fact that after a certain point, my iPad just stops uploading documents to the cloud altogether. It can’t be an issue with the network connection because it receives notes uploaded from other devices perfectly and quickly. None of the other devices (Mac and iPhone 7+) are experiencing this issue and it is unfortunate that the device I use the most with the app is having the most trouble. Please fix this problem! This app really deserves 5 stars otherwise, but with this issue I am hesitant to recommend the app to other people who I know would greatly benefit from it. As soon as the issue is fixed, I will not hesitate to update my review.
Wonderful, but for a couple of points
Incredible app that I use daily and somewhat grudgingly adore. For me, this is primarily a planner/bullet journal/traveler's notebook/calendar/design book, though I take meeting notes on occasion. It's easy to import custom templates and use GoodNotes for whatever you want, and the app is enjoyable to use. The image editing capabilities are a plus, as are handwriting search and conversion to text.
I'd give it 5 stars if iCloud sync worked even half the time without me endlessly rebooting my devices, and if system or profile fonts were used. I downloaded both AnyFont and Fonteer and installed all my favorite fonts only to realize GoodNotes doesn't pull from those. Also, the eraser tends to be very vague and erase a sort of general area with very little precision. If you don't care about fonts or seeing notes on multiple devices, dive in.
Those issues were enough to drive me to try NoteShelf, which is beautiful and polished and has all the features I want from GoodNotes... but even with the sync issues and awkward eraser and limited fonts, I prefer GoodNotes. I missed using it. So. Yes. Recommendation. Please let me have more fonts now (and maybe make the text box background optional)?
