What's New in Version 3.1.7
Changed my life for the better
There aren't many apps that I could say "this changed my life for the better," but there's no hyperbole in saying this about Goodreads. This communal approach to reading does so many good things for me: It connects me to real friends on a level we didn't used to know about each other, i.e. what we were reading, what we liked and hated, etc. Those real friends lead me to books I would NEVER have come across otherwise, so it's expanded my reach across genres, countries, cultures, languages (in translation), to exhilarating heights. Thoughtful reviews from Goodreads members help me put my finger on what I did or didn't like about books I've read, or rule out something I was considering because I liked the author but realized this particular book was not going to continue what I enjoyed about them. I like having the statistics feature to show me what I've read each year, and having one place where I can go back and see what I read in which year. I've also found the actual operation of the app to be flawless across the various platforms I use it: iPad, iPhone, Windows laptop. I use Goodreads more than any other app besides e-mail and Facebook, and I find it more edifying and life-affirming than both of those almost always. It is a real contribution to the quality of life, instead of a time-waster! I am an evangelist for Goodreads, and always will be.
I wouldn't survive without this app
Overall this is a phenomenal app! I love being able to see what my GR friends are reading and what their friends are reading. It's a fun, interactive way to explore the endless possibilities of reading and books. This app has killed my TBR and I will probably never demolish the TBR because of this app. I have no shame.
Seeing what everyone is reading and raving and rating is delightful because I need to know what books are good (duh!). However, on the topic of rating, I wish there was half star rating available, because sometimes it's really hard to decide if I should round up or round down. I know there are plenty of people who agree with me, because I hear it all the time on BookTube, and I see it all the time on the app and on blogs and Instagrams. That would make Goodreads.
Other than that bump in the road, the app is amazing! I use it everyday and I get a zap of excitement as I scroll through my feed and Listopia. I highly recommend this app to anyone who is looking for something to read, wanting to connect with fellow book-lovers, or just any person who is looking for a great app that opens plenty of doors.
A good place for suggested readings.
I like goodreads as a good place to consolidate my book lists; those I've read and those I want to read. I also like the book reviews which help with the book selection process and book recommendations from friends. The app is a good take-along for future references. However, it lacks the perusal ease of the website and some of the other features including promos and events. When home I use the website first over the app.
Being asked to rate the app, again....still same feelings. I prefer the web site which navigates Better.
I now have an actual Kindle Voyage, rather than using the iPad as my e-reader. When sitting out on my patio or on the road, I can't read in daylight as image is completely washed out. The Kindle Voyage has a direct link to goodreads. While the screen is great for reading outdoors, it does not access goodreads anywhere near as well as the web site and, has more limitations than this app. My order of referring to goodreads; first the web site, then the iPad app and lastly the Kindle Voyage.
