Fantastic App, But One Big Flaw
I have been using Goodreads for many years and it's one of my favorite apps. I can track what I've read over the past years and see what my friends are reading.
One major flaw that Goodreads seems unwilling to fix (I read about it on a four-year-old forum) is that there is no way to indicate you are re-reading a book. There are books I love and re-read every few years, but to record this in Goodreads I have to move the book from my Read folder to my Currently Reading folder. This erases any record of my having read this book in the past. I can work around this if there are two versions of a book available (this is a commonly-used way around the issue), but it would be easy for Goodreads to change the program to recognize re-reading.
If Goodreads fixes this, I will change my rating to five stars. Otherwise, this is a Hall of Fame app.
For book owners & book lovers
This is a great way to track what you have read and what you own. I own a lot of books...I mean a serious amount. This helps so i don't double buy books (which I have done before). Also, you can track what you have read, which when you read as much as I do you sometimes forget the names of the books you have read...so if you are like me in this regard, then this is a perfect app for you. Side note: you can also read book reviews, look up books by authors and get book suggestions. I may be a super nerd, but this is my favorite app.
Convenient and Motivating
Because I am not required to read books anymore for classes, seminars, etc., it has been difficult for me to get back into the swing of reading good books for fun. Goodreads has helped motivate me to read more, since I can track my progress and see how much I have left, and can add books to a Want To Read list. When I go to bookstores, I can look down that list and see what I might be interested in reading next. I've really come to love watching my progress and setting goals for myself to read more!
