Google Classroom

By Google, Inc.

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

Classroom is a free service for schools, non-profits, and anyone with a personal Google account. Classroom makes it easy for learners and instructors to connect—inside and outside of schools. Classroom saves time and paper, and makes it easy to create classes, distribute assignments, communicate, and stay organized.

Classroom is designed to help teachers create, collect, and grade assignments paperlessly, including time-saving features like the ability to automatically make a copy of a Google Document for each student. It also creates Drive folders for each assignment and for each student to help keep everyone organized.

Students can keep track of what’s due on the Assignments page and begin working with just a click. Teachers can quickly see who has or hasn't completed the work, and provide direct, real-time feedback and grades right in Classroom.

With the mobile app for iOS, students and teachers can view their classes and communicate with their classmates in real time. Students can open their assignments and work on them right from their phone or tablet. Teachers can keep track of who has turned in work and grade the assignment - at school or on the go. Students and teachers receive notifications when they have new content in Classroom, so they are always up to date.

There are many benefits of using Classroom:

Easy to set up
Teachers can add students directly or share a code with their class to join. It takes just minutes to set up.

Saves time
The simple, paperless assignment workflow allows teachers to create, review, and grade assignments quickly, all in one place.

Improves organization
Students can see all of their assignments on an assignments page, and all class materials (e.g., documents, photos, and videos) are automatically filed into folders in Google Drive.

Enhances communication
Classroom allows teachers to send announcements and start class discussions instantly. Students can share resources with each other or provide answers to questions on the stream.

Affordable and secure
Like the rest of G Suite for Education services, Classroom contains no ads, never uses your content or student data for advertising purposes, and is free.

Clunkier than I expected

I am using Google Classroom for the first time this year. In previous years, I used Showbie to distribute and collect students’ work. Showbie allowed students and myself to easily attach numerous pieces of information (pictures, comments and documents). It does not seem as easy or intuitive on Google Classroom, either on my end or on their end. I am also disappointed in the amount of time it takes the app (iPad)to switch from one student to another within an assignment. Often it will simply crash the app and I will have to go back in to the app, class and assignment. I am hoping that this app will become smoother in future updates.

Hell for us students

Yeah, all of you are like “wow this is an amazing tool for students” or “makes class so much more easier”. But in reality, its hell for us students. You hear your phone vibrate and you think its your friend but then you look and see “Teacher posted assignment: due tonight at midnight” and thats the indication “well look here no sleep for me”. I gave it one star because it should be somewhat credited with pulling away from wasting paper but other than that it is horrific. Its a teachers way to ruin “the dog ate my homework” excuse (not that it really worked, but still). There is my rant on google classroom. It is not bad... It is just irritating for us students.

This app...

I have had many complications with this app and have had to restart my IPad many times for this app. It when it works good I love it and would rate it 5 stars but it glitches and annoys me to much for that. The only time it glitches for me is when I try to watch my attached videos on assignments.
