Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. Google Photos doesn't run GPS in the background unless you give us permission by turning on optional features that require this.

Amazing App
After repeated attempts to delete, technical support, hair pulling and nail biting weeks trying to access my ICLOUD I finally gave up and called my carrier to have them just go in and delete all my pictures in my iCloud because I have already deleted all from my phone but I still keep getting that dreaded message that says "my iCloud is full" I was fed up just delete it. I was placed in touch with a tech that told me about Google app and told me to download it and forget about the iCloud. I wiped my phone and started it from scratch and have been happy ever since!!! The Google app downloaded pictures I had on my iPhone and pictures I thought were lost forever!!! I'm so thrilled I have this and will never think or anything other than google after this experience!!! Way to go Google!!!
Google photos
Enjoy the app & options it allows me to do. One change/option I want is the ability to go in & out of app and resume to location of pics I just viewed. Sometimes it does if you have photos selected already but if not it zooms you back to top to scroll down again. In some modes the round arrow guide on side does not appear to make you zoom quicker.
This is helpful at times but not if I don't remember dates I took photos.
I keep many in view for several reasons b/4 I archive them. Quicker to access for printing at home and especially if I take in a photo lab to print out. I use many for design ideas and for clients to see options for orders but w/personal taste modifications.
There are often too many categories and photos to make albums for all-
Album view is so large -is there a way to decrease views into a smaller thumbnail or mid range view to limit scrolling?
Finally, I select album covers most always but if I am in a hurry & do not the app shows a blank cover. Why not just have a default if the last or first photo added as cover. Helpful reminder when you forget what titles represent specific examples.
I still use & would recommend but the place resuming option or lack of is why I rated it 4 stars-
App needs work
I love being able to back my photos up. I once lost about 1000 photos and I don't want that to happen again so having this is app to help make sure it doesn't is great. I love being able to search photos by a persons face and also being able to search by item in the photo. Although it doesn't work perfectly, it's still pretty cool.
But the app itself could really use some work unless I am doing something wrong. I was under the impression that when connected to wifi the photos would be backed up automatically. This is not the case. I have to physically go to the app and stay on the app until it's completed for the photos to be backed up. I often forget to do this and when I finally remember there are over 100 photos/videos that need to be backed up and it ends up taking about an hour or so to finish.
