Beware, requires login. Requires Internet to work.

After not using my gopros (I have 3) for some time, I took them to an event only to find out that the app now requires a login to work. Being in a location that has zero cell coverage, I wasn't able to remotely control my cameras as I had been able to do. Words cannot express my disappointment with this, but I guess it's what I needed to convince me to start looking for new cameras. I'm sure there are companies out there that will appreciate earning my money. Too bad it's not a company I've been loyal to for so many years.

Updating for version 3.1. Was excited to see a new version, but still forces login. Disappointing that they still don't get it. Locking features behind an internet required application doesn't work when your product is designed and marketed to users that work in places where there is no internet.

Updating for 3.1.1. Once again, a new version. Now with Facebook login capabilities. Guess what, if you don't have internet access, logging in with Facebook doesn't solve the issue. This is a camera designed to be used in harsh and distant environments, so in what world does it make sense to require Internet to use the full feature set?

So far so good.

I started using this app yesterday. We bought our gopro hero 4 silver last summer and started using it on our honeymoon for scuba diving, helicopter rides and taking the road to hana. So we have had some fun with it so far. I didn't realize this app could connect to the phone and you could control it through there which I think is an awesome feature. I am curious to see how much data it uses from my cell phone plan.

It worries me that I see all of these bad reviews because, just like everyone else, we paid a lot of money for our camera. We have ordered a new SD card for it and hopefully things keep running as smooth as they have been.

I always wondered how people could get the photos from their gopro without taking the camera into shutter mode. This app makes that possible and easy. So I am super excited to get going on my snowboard this season and see what awesome shots we can get!

Cumbersome and Frustrating. A step in the wrong direction.

I don't understand what GoPro is thinking lately. They seem to have made it more difficult/cumbersome for users with the Capture app and latest GoPro lineup. Why do you need to login to access the camera settings?!?!?!? The answer can't be logical, in any way, as it was previously possible. I'm not sure how but this must fit into GoPros new revenue model. Also, why can't I control the camera with Bluetooth only? It connects via wifi+Bluetooth, Wifi only, but not Bluetooth only. I don't need a live feed, I just want to change settings from my phone. Another problem with the session: you can't change any of the protune/advanced settings without the app. And guess what you need to access the app? That's right. Internet so you can login. Where do you use your GoPro? I use mine on mountains with no internet. About to sky dive? I hope you set your camera up while in the ground. Snorkeling/biking/hiking/driving/etc and the weather changes? Good luck changing your white balance. How could a company with such humble beginnings miss the mark so bad the last two years?
