Mobile Gorillaz experience
Your in for a treat if you've been to the website when plastic beach, demon days and Gorillaz albums came out. The Gorillaz app experience is reminiscent of those phases. For those that are new to the Gorillaz exploration be aware that the story of the Gorillaz takes place on several platforms/mediums and it is your job to put everything together. There was the developing stories on instagram, twitter and for a small time on OKcupid. When plastic beach was released there were stories being released months after.
With the album Humanz, Albarn says that he has 40 more songs he developed but did not complete. He states that he is working on them and will take several months to finish. This means there is still a long string of stories left for Humanz, that's not even including the art book being released with the vinyl that will most like have more depth to the story. Be wary if you don't have the patience to follow the long term story, you will be frustrated and feel shorted.
Has Potential
This is a pretty cool app to distract you, but I feel kind of disappointed, compared to all the other things you could do in the previous Gorillaz games, this (at least currently) comes up short. Augmented reality just doesn't feel right with this format, and the fact that you can't transfer to point and click, definitely hurts it. Unfortunately, there is no version of it on the site and overall, this just feels clunky. I very much hope that some of these problems are dealt with soon.
Requires location...why?!
Can't even get into the app without giving access to camera and location. Any app that requires you to give permission to things without even an explanation of why gets a no from me. I understand why it needs location, but why does this app need my location? Maybe it does, but unless you tell me why I'm not giving you access. And that prevents me from even opening the app. Messed up.
