Grandview - Focus Your Writing And Eliminate Writer's Block
By Dark Heartfelt
Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
Big. Bold. Clear. Forget your usual text editing apps, Grandview is different, stripping back words to show each letter in large format as you write.
For those that struggle to write, Grandview helps you analyze words one letter at a time. Experienced writers also benefit from its paucity of features while helping to unblock writer’s block by eliminating blank white screens.
An exercise in simplicity, Grandview has no unnecessary features. No distractions. No gizmos. Just the tools to write easily and enjoy each letter up close. And read and reflect on words by changing the color of the background and text.
On finishing the sentence, a full stop reveals the completed sentence, but the beauty is in the writing process. Not just the finished piece.
"Grandview is a running start to writing."
-Thomas Wong at iSource.com
"As close to stream of consciousness writing as I have ever experienced in a software environment."
-David Ozab at ATPM
• One word at a time
• Review each sentence upon punctuation
• Normal text editing
• Ten recent notes saved to menubar
• Focus On Horizon Mode - cursor stays in center of screen
• Margin Settings
• Word View Word Size Setting
• Customize everything - fonts, colors, sizes
• Hot Key Activated/Hidden
• Clipboard Autosave Option
• Choose Which Display for Multiple Displays*
• Works with TextExpander
• "No Reverse" Option - (@*y Rough Drafts)
• Save/Load as .txt
HOW IT WORKS:
Press ⌘ + ⌥ + 5 to enter full screen writing from any application you’re in.
Once inside you can toggle between
1.viewing words one at a time as you write them or
2.viewing as simple text in whatever size you want
No dock icon. Just a little guy, in the menu bar.
You can configure your hot keys however you like them.
And YES, there's a hotkey so you can quickly enter REGULAR VIEW. If you aren't a believer in the Grandview method ;)
Oh and you can configure it to only take up one of your screens if you have multiple displays, leaving the other active for you to continue using.
What's New in Version 1.8
great for stream of thought writing
I was having issues writing fiction for my writing class. I spent too much time looking back at what I'd written before and editing it than moving forward with the story. Grandview solved this problem. Also, I really don't care about whether the icon is nice or not. I love this app. Why would you give an app one star for just an icon? Try rating apps on their merit.
One improvement they can make is to allow you to save your notes in Evernote from within Grandview.
Like the single word writing but...
I was enjoying the single word writing, but I unfortunately lost something that I was writing because I had already had ten notes. I think that there should be a feature that would enable one to save and then CLOSE individual notes to make space for others. I also think it would be nice to include the option to have everything that’s written saved for later use (if one has more than ten notes that is). I guess what I’m trying to say is that it would be nice if there was some foolproof way that users could be sure that they will not lose their documents! Thanks
AWESOME app. AWEFUL icon.
I love this app, it looks incredible. The biggest thing it's missing is spellcheck. Also, sharing integration with Facebook, Twitter, etc. would be awesome too. But the only that that is horrible about this app is the ICON! It's almost enough to make me want to uninstall it just so I don't have to see that icon in my menu bar.
