I have tried to use Groupon now twice, and have had issues. I believe it is miscommunication between the businesses and the groupon company. The first time I tried to get my cell phone repaired, and they ended up having me pay full price at the cell phone repair shop saying that the groupon did not cover what I had done to my phone. It was pretty misleading, and I wish I would have known that way I could have gone somewhere closer. The second time I tried to book a hotel through Groupon getaways. BIG MISTAKE. I called a few days before to make sure my hotel was booked, and a representative from the hotel said I was booked, and all set. When I got there the day of, the lady at the front desk said that I was not booked and they were in fact OVERBOOKED. I am so glad I asked more questions, because she was about to turn me away. She finally told me that they called groupon earlier and groupon was supposed to call me and RELOCATE me to a different hotel. My boyfriend and I ended up having to find a local motel just to have somewhere to sleep in the mean time because it was past groupon business hours for me to give them a call. I called the next day, and asked if there was anything they could do or at least refund me. They ended up refunding me but in groupon bucks not back to my bank account. I'm going to give the groupon bucks a try on a few goods but I am not going to keep my hopes up that everything will go well...
Hit and miss
Some very interesting deals, some good deals, some great deals. Shipping sometimes is very quick, but at other times can be awful! I have ordered items that I have never received. When trying to recover them, groupon states that it has sold through another company, that company doesn't take responsibility for the item, etc. It can be a mess.
For the most part, I have had success with most of the items I have purchased. It's very easy to set up your purchasing information and with the push of a button, it's done! So easy in fact, that my grandson has purchased an expensive item. When I noticed, I immediately contacted groupon, who took the purchase off for me with no questions. I was very relieved.
The most difficult time with purchasing is definitely around Christmas. Shipping is terrible, your items do not go out for weeks after being ordered, etc.
Yet, I have continued to order from them because most items are good, pricing is great and it's convenient.
Sent wrong item and never sent corrected one
I ordered a set of 6 discovery books w/sound buttons for my 2 year old and received 6 discovery books but for a 5th or 6th grader! I looked at my order and confirmation email to make sure I ordered correctly (and I did), then contacted groupon. Got a generic auto response that it will take a few days to work on and trying to find a solution....etc. finally got a person responding saying they needed pictures. I sent picture of the item and also my purchase receipt. The best they could do is tell me they can't send the other one (not sure why) and give me a $5 credit...oh and to return the item for a full refund if we don't like it.
The item they sent me was also being sold at the same time I purchased mine, so seems like they just had a mix up. The odd thing is that the one I originally ordered they couldn't send me for whatever reason but it is still being sold on groupon-very weird....can't get an actually person to connect with. Frustrated!!!
