No communication with users
My boyfriend and I got this app so we could try new places. Ended up using it less than we planned, but often enough to keep subscribing we thought. A few meals a month. One day after having the app for about two months, my boyfriend figures out that there is a free option that matches much better with our usage of the app. He had to go and find it in the app himself-there was no notification saying “Hey just so you know, you’re paying for a service you could get for free.” And then today we open it to go out to eat and surprise, the free option has been taken away. I even followed them on Instagram hoping to stay alert of possible ripoffs after the first issue. Yeah, no warning there. This will probably be great for people who go out to eat every day and open the app often to see their surprises, but for folks like us who eat out as a treat it isn’t worth the space on your phone. No communication with users, as I said in the title. It’s their product, they can make it free or charge at will. That’s fine. But gosh dang, tell users when you are about to make a change-or even after you make one. Don’t let them scroll through the app and realize they’ve been paying for something they don’t need.
GrubPass is a start up company; we super busy rolling out new marketing ideas and working tirelessly to debug our app and process. We heard your concern "no communication with users" and would like to give you and your boyfriend 3 FREE months, plus dinner on us! Plus discuss further how we can make our process better!

I really wanted to try this...
A couple things right off the bat that are frustrating to me. First of all, I just wanted to check out the app and immediately they ask for your phone number with no explanation why. The app is poor and glitchy and does not run well. I mostly downloaded it to see what the subscription model was and... I still don’t know. You can’t see what it is because it’s behind a credit card input wall.
If you are going to run an advertising campaign to college students that familiar with business models like this, the execution should be much better than this. Especially if you are going to advertise at my door step... and use obscenities to advertise to a mostly LDS population. Poor marketing decision.
We’re so sorry you had this experience. We’d love to apologize over the phone, and offer you a free year of GrubPass. We’d also love to give you a gift card to go enjoy a couple meals on us. Would you please email firstname.lastname@example.org so we can get that all to you?
Perfect for college students!
I am really liking grubpass! My husband and I use it for dinner or even a date night treat when we go out. I wish there were more options, but there are always new things coming in so I’m sure they will get all of our favorites eventually! We save money every time and it makes us much more likely to go out! What college student doesn’t like cheap stuff? It is perfect for college students!
