Guitar Vision takes a radical new approach to guitar tablature:
It attempts to extract guitar tracks out of any song in your iTunes library and transcribe it into guitar chords through patent-pending polyphonic pitch detection technology, while you hear the music.
★★★★ WHAT THE CRITICS SAY ★★★★
- “Game-changing Guitar Teacher.” — ShortList magazine
- “This guitar-teaching app sounds too good to be true...” — The Guardian
- “Killer App." - Apps4iDevices
Whereas just about any tablature application relies on midi playback or synthesized music, Guitar Vision is finally the app that combines guitar notation with the thrill of real music recordings.
The aim of Guitar Vision is to be the most intuitive and enjoyable way for guitarists to learn and practice any song. The user interface is very simple and understandable at a glance: The first you’ll see is the music browser which displays your iTunes music library. Click a song and you are ready to play as the analysis happens in real time, while you hear the song.
Guitar Vision will display chords and notes fingering on a guitar fretboard, synchronized to the music. To the left you can watch rhythm guitars and chord diagrams. To the right you can watch the lead guitar. Above it you’ll see the chord progression of the song.
The chord diagrams make use of color-coding to make it easy for you to memorize and visualize chord progressions in your mind’s eye. Related chords will have related colors, and contrasting chords will have contrasting colors.
Looping lets you practice sections of a song, whereas tempo control allows you to slow down to fit your pace without changing pitch.
Note, Guitar Vision is not yet compatible with iCloud music.
What's New in Version 1.25
Improved chord recognition.
Improved solo recognition.
Sensitivity control slider.
iPhone4 and iPod(4th gen) are real-time.
I like it a lot, accuracy isn't bad; hopefully it is improved in this version though.
It would be very nice to have a feature to be able to view the tabs/chords of the entire song. Not in real-time, but as an image or a text maybe? Just take it all and compile it into one large piece that can be viewed without music; that helps me a lot when I learn. I like to play the same small part repeatedly and at my own pace. Not along with the song.
Also, fret numbers on the dotted frets would help me visualize it a lot better. Just on the 3, 5, 7, 9, 12, etc. would be nice.
Also also, I would like to use some files that aren't on my iPad and it would save me a TON of work if it were possible to open sound files from other applications with this app. For example, if I have an mp3 on Dropbox, I could open it in this app if you give us the option. Because I have a lot of songs that aren't on my iPad; I don't usually keep music on here.
This app could have a way to save files that are opened with it locally so that I don't have to re-import them every time I want to use them. We would also need a delete option.
Take it with a grain of salt
I tried it on a few classic rock songs I've known for a long time and, though it won't show you exactly how to play things, if you have some skill with guitar and music theory you can get useful information from it ... It might throw off beginners with extraneous information, e.g. on Rebel Rebel by David Bowie it comes close to showing the notes of the riff correctly, but indicated walking bass notes on the E chord as G#minor and C#minor chords, which might throw off a beginner ... On some songs it would make three or four different guesses at what was clearly the same chord progression being repeated ... But fun if you love guitar and can interpret what it's doing ( and learn to ignore it when it's totally and obviously wrong!)
This app gets a few of the cords right but does not have anything built into it to take out the vocals so the singers voice gets mixed in and it tabs out the singers voice which is worthless also you have a super small screen for the fretboard and you can't even see which notes it's picking up I was expecting that once it was done extracting the notes for the song that would put it in a PDF tab format or something That is actually usable.
Instead all i see are notes flying by fast as possible on a half-inch fretboard which is impossible to view on an iPhone.
This app needs to first of all filter out the vocals secondly it needs better accuracy thirdly it needs to export the notes set it phone into a PDF file in tabbed format so I connect to use what it transcribed otherwise this app is useless save your money
