Warning - This app will balloon in size!
This app is *so* much better than the official Google Voice app. Notifications are kinda screwy and recently MIA, but I'm having that problem with Google's app too... which I had to return to using because for some reason, GVMobile+ ballooned in size on my iPhone 5.
As far as I'm concerned, consuming 1.1GB of my limited storage space is simply unacceptable.
I'm guessing that GVMobile+ is simply downloading ALL of the messages and voicemail from my Voice account and storing them on my phone. I've been using GV since the GrandCentral days—so I've got a lot of text messages and voicemail in my archive, which is how the service is intended to be used. But rarely do I need to access my voicemail from 4 or 5 years ago. I'd like GVMobile+ to have my most recent messages and voicemail on hand - the last 2 months, certainly. I can't imagine anyone who would want or need to have 1.1GB of voicemail data on their phone, so how about allowing the user to set a size limit on how much data GVMobile+ hangs onto?
Nice design but doesn't really work
Sadly, although this developer obviously has put a lot of great work into the interface of this app, it simply doesn't work reliably. I am rarely notified of voice mail messages that are left; even after I open the app and refresh it I often still don't see messages that have been left, and that are visible in the Google webapp and iPhone app.
This all is likely the fault of Google for supporting and updating their Voice product soooo poorly. But the fact remains that this app just doesn't work well enough to be used for anything but daily out via VOIP. At that task it does excel. After this spring when Google discontinues some support for this I'm not sure that will still work, thoug.
I had the previous version and liked everything except I got no banner notification on my iPhone. I thought this version would correct that. After looking into it further, it seems both versions allow notifications. Although I’m not an expert, it seems that I can get notifications on both versions by forwarding to an email address. But that would prevent me forwarding to the email address I already have set up. I wonder why this app can’t send notifications as easily as all my other apps without having to “give up” other features I have in place.
