This proven 14 week plan is designed for true beginner/novice runners who want to train for a half marathon, but have very little running experience. This run/walk program is perfect for newcomers, as the walk breaks help mentally break up the race into segments, so you can focus on one section at a time. These breaks help make the half/full marathon less grueling, as well as reduces the overall impact and risk of injury.

But don't think that just because walking is involved that your time will be slower, or that you're accomplishing less. Many veteran runners have posted personal best times after switching to this run walk method! By using a ratio of running and walking, you can manage your fatigue which gives you the muscle resource and mental confidence to handle the later parts of the race.

Love it

I used the couch to 5k app when I ran my first 5k and let me tell you, I was the perfect person for that. I could barely run for 3 minutes, nevermind 3 miles. I finished that 5k feeling as if could have continued running! It was the BEST feeling in the world because I had started from essentially nothing. I have a new goal of running a half marathon in November, so I downloaded this app this month. I'm not good at keeping up daily, but I love how the app calls me out when I don't use it for a while. I also really love how the app works, and appreciate that it builds in non-running days and rest days. I am looking forward to running that half! Here's hoping I stick to the app and can make it! 😁

Good-trouble with watch?

I have ran a little but I'm basically a beginner. I'm having problems with the watch though. I will turn on the app, unlock watch, open app in watch then about a minute or so I'll look at my watch and all I see is my watch face. If I want to see where I'm at I have to click the wheel, open the app, and wait for it to load while trying to run. Pretty frustrating. Then today the same thing happened but then it gave me an alert when I was half way through my cool down to start my cool down. Any advice?


This is the best app I have found for training for a 13.1 (half marathon). It is exactly what I was looking for. I have used the Couch to 5K in the past with great success and this is even better. I appreciate the run/walk, the cues, knowing what to expect, and most of all, an app that is easy to follow. It integrates with my music, works great on a treadmill or on the street. This app is giving me the confidence to run my first half marathon on sep 18 in Maui.
